I joined the SC bonanza late and my first SC was the Traxxas Slash 4wd. I trash it and use it on the track. Loved it and got a Hyper 10SC 4wd as well. Proline tires, Castle 5900kv, etc. Very happy with it.

Now thinking what next...

Been thinking about the Traxxas e-Revo brushless and the AE SC8e but in the end I decided I want to try a 2wd SC truck. different handling, maybe more challenging. Other then that I can't really argue why I would need one.

I'm thinking about AE SC10 TF and the Blitz ESE. So more race then bash. Then again, I don't race competition; just for fun.

Is it worthwhile? Or will I have more fun with the 4wd anyway and should I not bother with the 2wd?

Definitely.....Driving 2wd will make you better and smoother with your 4x4.

I had a Slash 4x4 with a carbon fiber LCG chassis (handmade) and the D8 shocks. I picked up a FT SC10 and I love it. Should have picked up a 2wd sooner. Teaches you to be smooth like the above posts said.

2WD can do nothing but improve your skills. Its a whole new challenge when you've been driving 4WD. Go for it.

I agree with my fellow racers here. 2WD will hone your driving skills which is always a good thing. Get which 2WD SC that has good parts support and popular in the place you race. IMHO, get the Kyosho UltimaSC-R.

Learning to drive 2WD will just make you that much better with your 4WDs. I'd recommend the Blitz ESE as well. The box stock setup is excellent, you only need to add the right tires. I consistently pull 3rd or 4th at a minimum at my local track, running a 13.5 RS Pro setup when everyone else is running 8.5's and 6.5's. The guys that beat me are running SC10s, their faster motors let them clear some of the jumps I can't quite make, and also get them ahead of me on the straight. I almost always take them in the corners.

The initial batch of ESEs had some weird weak chassis issues, but HPI replaced them for people right away. I haven't had any problems at all with my replacement chassis. All I've broken on mine since is the rear camber link outer ball mount. Replace it with aluminum and you'll have a rock solid truck. I haven't even had to do so much as refill the shocks after 6 or 7 race days and about as many practices.

If you're disinclined to clean your truck regularly, I'd also recommend swapping out the steel hinge pins for titanium. Mine got really rusty after one day of muddy running and forgetting to clean it off.

2wd is a blast, definitely pick one up. As everyone mentioned, it really improves your driving abilities.

As for which to get, whatever your local shops carry parts wise is a good way to choose. They all are great trucks and don't let any of the "keyboard pros" fool you, they all can win races if you know how to drive. Its 95 percent driver, 5 percent truck. I've seen slashes with stock suspension lap modded sc10's, blitzs, etc and vice versa. I've driven aand raced slashes, blitz, and sc10's and any of them is a solid choice! (Never tried a kyosho but heard good things).

I started with Slash 2WD 3 years ago, sold it then bought a Blitz and later an SCRT10. You know what, both 2WD and 4WD have the equal fun and challenge itself...if you don't race buy a Slash, if you're going into serious race definitely buy the Blitz

Honestly, I enjoy 2WD more than 4WD. I say definitely get one. I doubt you'll regret it.

I have a Slash and am very competative with it in our Open 2WD class with stock suspension and chassis with NiMH cells. You really can't go wrong with any of the current trucks on the market and you don't have to have the top-end equipment.
