Josh Cyrul colaborated on an article about truing tires in Xtreme RC Cars which explains the difference between leaving it square and rounding it off.

Anyone know where one could get a "SnakeSkin" File for rounding these corners? I have been looking for 1 for over a year now. A buddy of mine has 1 but he has had it for years and doesnt know where to get 1 now.

The best I've seen is called a tungston carbide embedded rasp. Mcmaster-Carr sells them for about 24.00. Go to their Web-site

http://www.mcmaster.com/

pg 2543

The Border On-line shop in Holland sell the "SnakeSkin" file. Not cheap but well worth it!

Looks like simular to Mcmaster carr tungston carbide rasp; but smaller; not sure what grit the snake skin file is.

The McMaster one says the combination file is 46 grit and 80 on either side. Thanks for the link, I have looked at McMaster for it before, but did't find the right page I guess. I will be ordering it soon!

You could make your own by getting some (free) paint mixing sticks from Home Depot, some sand paper w/ adhesive backing, and wrap it around the stick.

Or just fold the sandpaper a couple of times and itll be plenty stiff. Sandpaper likes to melt the tire , where as files seem not too.

I even just use simple dremel rotary bits on my tire. Small and easy to work into a tight tire truer spot.

Default Nope

You guys need to goto www.bvmjets.com, and click on perma-grit tools. Touring guys want a F-101, and the 1/8th scales racers need F-102. Those numbers represent fine and coarse. They work well, are very easy to pack, and best of all cost about 10 bucks.

When I said pack in my last reply, means they are very thin, and can be placed anywhere when travelling.
