you don't have to skip it completely unless you eat thanksgiving dinner late in the day, nothing much happens on thanksgiving (at least in the past). pit set up, there is some track time at night but you can get going Friday morning.

having said that, we always get there mid-afternoon on thurs and hang out.

We tried, even talked to the Holiday Inn Independence. Seems all the hotels have fairly recently remodeled and they ALL categorically denied it.
