That is what the shock holes are for. To stiffen or soften the suspension action with out changing the springs and only in minor incriments...

The Tamiya Springs also fit well in the AE shocks, you could also try them, but they just come in soft medium hard and extra hard.

Wouldn't almost ANY spring fit on ae shocks???

I know that Losi, HPI, Yokomo, Shumacher, and possibally Alex springs fit on ae shocks...

HPI springs are not so fitting..they are a little larger the rest.

HPI springs fit on my car...(Although they are a bit longer than the others, and I am guessing that is what you ment)

Hey guys. Been thinking of buying a TC3 racer kit to replace my TL-01. I guess I kinda made the mistake of buying the Monster stock as its not big on HP like the other stock motors which is one of the later reasons why I thought my sedan's acceleration wasnt satisfying. However, the first reason I assumed it was slow was due to my car, the TL-01. Few reasons were 1) its weight, 2)limited gear ratio, 3)drivetrain probably zapping my power and speed with all the extra bulky gears. The TC3 may seem to fit the bill. I have a 21T pinion, about the same size as the Associated pinions and wondering, will it be a fine combo with a stock TC3 or should I get a 23T pinion? Anyone else running the Monster in their TC3? I hear is quite a motor as lots of people are using it though. Guess it will be better in a better car.

yeah the monster is great....
for the money, the tc 3 racer is a great buy....
tuning options are good and with a monster in it and the right gearing.... woooooooooo..

Try using a 25tooth pinion with the stock 72spur. I am guessing that the 21tooth pinion is from your TL-01, if that is the case then you can not use it. Tamiya gears are 04module which is metric 48p, and they do not mix.

The monster is a great motor, you just have to gear it accordingly to what track length you are running on. As you would with any motor, you need to cut it and change brushes to keep it going fast, and the hp's up there. I personally try to cut my Monster every two or three runs according to brush wear. The more you cut it, the more round the com will be and the less copper you will be taking off.

I only drove the motor once. BTW, this is just for some club racing I created at my school. So are you sure the 25T pinion for the TC3 will be a great one to use? What other pinion I can use with the stock do you suggest? The track, which is in the gym, will probably be about 60'x 30' or so. I'm currently working on some designs but for starter's, gonna make something not too technical; lots of passing room and easy going for the beginners. I just basically drew them using a pen and protractor. I'll scan them and post pics tomorrow.

I would try all the way from 22 to maybe 25 just to see how fast the motor spools up, and how long it is at top speed. Also dependent on what kind of surface you are racing on(high traction, medium traction, low traction).

With the Monster, it likes to be geared really low, you may not get the best performance out of it, but it likes to be geared low. But when the track is slipery, you might want to gear up to get rid of some of the wheelspin that the motor will create when geared low.

Well, when we return to school, I'll schedule a meeting to see if the kids will want to come on Saturdays to run. If none dont really come, then we'll wait till spring and run outdoors. During that time most will be interested in nitro onroad and offroad, but we will have electrics running as well. Thnx for the tips. I'll snag a 22T pinion and 24T.

NO,0.4M is almost the same as 64p(take 25.4/64=0.4) and they can be used compatibly,without mesh problems.
There is no such thing as metric 48p.metric is the SI system using meters(for example 0.4M,0.6M etc).32,48,64 is called standard or Imperial or American standard measurement.

I knew it would work as the teeth size does look very much about the same size. I currently have a 21T pinion though I think that may be too low to work with the stock spur gear. I heard the monster likes to run with a lower gear ratio so I guess I'll give it a try. Anyway, the track in our school gym isnt going to be that big so a high gear ratio will be fine.

The 21 tooth pinion from your TL01 is 0.6M. This would be like a standard 42 pitch gear. It may look like it will work with the standard 48 pitch spur, but it will not. It would make a lot of noise and quickly eat the spur.
