2 months I'm still waiting for a spur gear. This is plain dumb! As awesome as this car is... This sucks and I'm at my Witts end and I don't even want it anymore. For God's sake the zx6 has parts available already and the car hasn't been officially released yet!

Can't comment on backorders, but I just bought one last week from Tower. Showed in stock early one morning, ordered mine and quickly back out of stock afterwards. Makes me think that there either aren't a ton of backordered kits, or they are terrible at fulfilling backorders prior to putting items in stock.

Ok thought about it... selling my D413 roller. I have extra arms and a rear shock tower. Needs a spur gear. $300 shipped!

Without going back through 100 pages, can someone quickly explain what the problem with the spur gear is? My kit is backordered through tower at the moment but all I keep reading is people stripping the spur

I dont think its a problem as in some sort of design flaw, but one simply due to not being able to find them on the shelf when the need does arise. Unless someone can point out a specific design flaw, I am not seeing that as being the case.

And this just about the only "big issue" that I'm reading about the car on these forums, sounds pretty promising overall. Eventually you'll be able to horde a few and should be good to go.

Out of probably 300 buggies in this country I've seen only a handful of people report a stripped spur gear. Everyone keeps going on about it because there are no replacements in stock ANYWHERE ! Which I'm sure will change very soon. Hot Bodies, and after market manufacturers are probably fixing to flood the market with all kinds of stuff for this car.

Personally, I'm not stressing it.

I spoke with HPI a few weeks ago about the spur gear issue. They confirmed that HPI was not happy with the manufacturing process on the spur gear and some other parts. So HPI demanded for the parts to be re-manufactured. This is why there is a delay in some of the parts.

My spur gear looks new..I used a Robinson pinion gear.. the teeth are cut more to a point instead of being rounded off..looks like a better mesh to me.. I have raced on carpet and dirt.

I agree buddy. I am not going to let the spur gear issue determine whether or not to get rid of the buggy. The buggy is amazing and I am sure parts will be in any day from now. The fact that tower is selling out of the buggy ASAP has to mean something. People just want the buggy

I can confirm...

Both my stock spur, and my spur that I got from Torrance are not round.

It isn't a huge deal if you set your mesh correct.

Since the depth of lash changes as the spur rotates you need to set the mesh as tight as possible at the 'tightest' location so that once the spur rotates to give you the lash on the sloppy part, it still has enough to grab onto.

I took my D413 to a Minnesota Nitro series race to run against a couple of sponsored guys... A budy of mine was wrenching and I asked him to gear it up 2 teeth... but I told him: "Just get the teeth close, I'll set the mesh and lock it in."

I'm hoping that JC, Avid or someone.... comes out with a new spur that is machined delrin.

Just test drived the car using a modified ty low traction setting, car runs great, loving the control of it, however...

My spur gear stripped in the first few laps, already paying close attention for the gear mesh... The spur gear is slightly uneven in some spots when I'm doing it..... Btw shouldn't hb do a 32-pitch option for this as well?

Red78, I FINALY got it finished ! Tell me what you think of the paint scheme.

This D413 is the most intricate build I've ever done. Taking it to the local track tonight.
