417 all the way, its obviously a good car, it did win the worlds! if you break the carbon parts alot, you can put tb-03 plastic parts on it, many at my local track have done this and it seems to take more abuse, i run carbon parts on 416 and it seems to be pretty strong. I have ran xray before for a long time and compared to the tamiya it seemed inconsistent at my track, i could touch a wall and it would start handling different, the tamiya doesnt seem to do that for me, also take into consideration what surface you run.

The Tamiya isn't as fragile as you might think. With steel bones up front and plastic hubs it's pretty durable. I have the kit bumper it has held up well after a year.

Why not consider the Corally. The new Phi 09' is fast and easy to drive out of the box. Product and parts support is superb with Specialized RC ( US distributor for Corally). You do need all of the aluminum upgrades for the car and it will be bullet proof. But sense you already know hotbodies and keep leaning that way go with them. There is a team driver at the track where I race and his car is diled. It requires is supper smooth. A drunk monkey could drive this car blind folded. The fit and finish is good and the car looks well put together like Hot Bodies did its home work when designing it. The steering is very consistant throughout the entire range of motion and has minimal play. Diff is very low maintinance and is as smooth as it was new. The car now has about 40 runs on it. The class is 17.5 super stock sedan.
