nitrohead,

Checked out that website where you got your FG and man, you can't beat those prices!!! I will be scraping up my pennies and seeing about finally making that leap (been talking about doing it for years). It will be Touring and eventually a F1 (I think they look super sweet) in my near future.

Hey Nitrohead.
I was just invited to go up to a track at Portage In. Apparently some around here travel up there to race.
Isn't that track near you?

It's about a 3 hour trip for me and I don't know anything about the track but I may be going up next year.

Do you know the place?

Regards,
BM

The way I see it now, the cost of a FG like yours and an upgraded engine is the same cost now as getting a 8th scale Lola car, 8th scale GT car, and 190mm/200mm Touring cars. And, if I choose to race it, from what I hear, the 5th scale crowd is not as bad as the racing crowd of the other classes I mentioned.

British Menace Portage is located in the northern part of Indiana close to Gary Indiana. From Danville Indiana where I live it is 129 miles.

I'm just curious, In terms of raw speed, How would a 1/5 FG stand up against a 1/8 onroad? I'm not trying to start any wars, I'm just curious.

Evo 13 a stock out of the box 1/8 scale onroad vs a stock out of the box FG usually the 1/8 scale onroad will be slightly faster. But as you know speed with are RC Cars is based on how deep your pockets are and your desire for speed. One of the main reasons for my switch in scale from 1/10 & 1/8. I really like the handling characteristics of the 1/5 scale cars . 1/5 scale onroad cars are not as twitchy, nervous as the 1/10 scale and 1/8 scale and I can see 1/5 scale better than 1/10 & 1/8 scale.

Yes .... it was video's like that one that got me to buy a 1/5th scale. So cool.
As far as speed .....
1/8th on road is the fastest class at the moment. Although the 1/5th scale's will get to 55 - 60mph. Maybe a little faster on the bigger tracks!

Speed was not the selling point with me as far as 5th scale is concerned. What attracted me was the true scale realism of the bodies, the size (can see it better at a distance), the sound, and the long-a$$ run time per tank. Once I saw a race with about a dozen of them in Florida back in the late 90s, I was hooked. Whether you race or bash one, a 5th scale is still a cool car to have in your r/c arsenal.
