ok people the weather is gettin nice here in philly so i am ready to go outside and run tc mod, I wil have an 8.5 lrp in the 411, so anyone have a starting point for gearing the pics of the track is here http://www.rctech.net/forum/racing-f...season-22.html I have never run mod only 17.5 stock so I am lost.

Until 2012 I really did not play around much with the rear diff oil and always ran a light 800cst to give lots of rotation off power. However since the snowbirds this year I have been eperimenting a lot more with rear diff oil and could slap myself for not doing this sooner. The rear diff oil has a very big impact on balance of the car. I only run a spool, so I don't have any data on running a front diff. What I have found is that on higher grip surfaces, running a thicker oil in the rear diff makes the car more stable going in and better on-power steering. However on lower grip surfaces a thick rear oil tends to make the car loose on entry as well as exit. So for medium to high grip carpet I seem to like betwen 1000 and 1600 cst. For low grip carpet I like 800cst. I have not run the car on aslphalt yet, but I suspect something in the 800cst to 1200cst will be good with the 800 for lower grip and the 1000 to 1200 for higher grip surfaces....but just a guess at this point.

I've been testing on tarmac over the last few days getting ready for the outdoor season here in the UK. I build up 5 gear diffs ranging from 700cst to 2000cst to try, and found that when the grip was low the 700 cst diff was the best and didn't want to go any lower. It allowed to the car to be stable going into the corner without locking it down too much. As the grip came up over the weekend, I ended up on 900cst. Thicker oils just felt too sluggish on corner entry and could be quite wild oversteer on corner exit.

The speed controller and programming have a lot to do with gearing.... That being said, for large tracks, you may want more motor.

This is a rule of thumb for non timing speedos and any motor manufacture. depending on the track size and motor it could be a tooth or two on the pinion different. for timing speedos it depends completely on the speedo setting and their is many different gearing options based upon the timing settings on the speedo.
Everyone needs to take notice of motor temp at 3min when trying a new set up to ensure not to blow a motor. any manufactures motor will taper off in on track performance around 190deg (magnet gets weak) and most manufactures will not blow up untill 210-230 deg or more. if at 3 min your motor exceeds 170deg you are most likely too aggressive on gear or timing for a 6 min run.
Again this is for non timing speedos and just a good rule of thumb for a starting point.

I am curious to see what people are doing to get the car fast out doors on a low traction surface. Your setup is not a lot different than mine although you run more tow out shorter wheelbase and a shorter rear camber link.
I am glad both our cars are working well. I am probably going to shorten my wheelbase 1mm to 4mm this week and let her rip, I don't want to do to much because the car was great last time out.
