Default 7MM upright spacer

Guys,
First I must say the info on this site has helped me
to better "understand" some of the irregularities of this car,
and to correct them or make it better. Thanks...........

Initial D / Nizee,

My track is a little slick (new asphalt poured just for r/c racing)
I tried the 5mm spacers- still had alot of
camber change when the suspension "worked".
So I am currently running no spacers on the uprights, ( don't
forget to cut the screws down so they don't rub on the
bearings or wheelaxles) and the rear shocks are on the
bulkhead with Trinity 37 weight oil, an one hole
pistons/ yellow springs, total of 4 degrees toe-in ( 2 per side). And it works alot better for rear traction.

My car has tons of off power, and on-power it sometimes
oversteers.

I am getting ready to try a "new" set-up tonight, will see what happens?

Modellor,
Hows the chassis coming?

Punisher, I thought you replied to a post by Accord some time back in another thread about his engine problems that an external fuel filter is not needed... I guess now you know why we use one...

Well, MS claimed that the current fuel filter in the tank does not filter out the small particles like tire dust well enough that it can get into the carb and cause tuning problems... That was what he said for what it's worth. If you look inside the 705 tank, the filter looks kinda plastic like and it looks like they can chip off easily and break. The ones from the Impulse has a bronze filter pickup. Much better. Therefore MS mentioned that it is advised that an external filter is used with the 705 / 835 tank.

The 835 forum at mytsn had a thread that discusses the fuel tank pick up problem. My guess is that the external filter will act as a buffer of some sort to keep equalising the pressure.

There is actually a short article from a guy in UK about the modification he did to his 835 tank. He used a 4.5 mm drill and drilled out the filter in the 835 tank. Took out the bronze filter from the Impulse tank and fitted it in the 835 tank. You can refer it here somewhere in the middle of the page... He has some pictures to illustrate what modifications he did.

Thanks InitialD,
Well, I'm going to try a new fuel tank at first then a external filter.

BTW-You shouldn’t need an external filter if the tank one works properly!

Its the same but the old shock pistion isn't "Keyed".
You won't feel the clicking of the shock postion hole as well.

Check out my website, the R/C Calculator may be of some use.

BSYDOR ,
Good to hear that u get valuable info here and thanks for sharing your set-up tips. I've got my car hook now, but doesn't like the way it takes corner or out of it, as or now. Gotta do more testing this weekend on that new track location.

What is 37 trinity to Serpent shock oil? Also, what shore rating u use for tires?

This is the minor problem with using a balldiff. Because the pulley is not bolted on it can tilt and not run straight. Just push it evenly from several sides until it runs true.

I looked through some older post on the 705 mytsn forum and found this mentioned by Julius Kolff;

"If you have understeer on entry and on exit at the same time use softer tires or softer front sway bar. If it's only on exit use more caster. If it's on entry only use harder damping."

I don't have a rollout chart for the tires but I have done somewhat similar to the one done and posted for the 950 on mytsn. It's just overdrive or under drive in terms of percentage.

Thanks Mark I noticed from your other post in the other thread from your Impulse PRO picture that you were using rubber tires... I think when using rubber tires, you do no need camber change in the rear and hence you can take the 7 mm aluminum spacer on the upper rear bearing block off. Use a shorter screw. The 7 mm aluminum spacer is optimised for foam tires only.

What are your camber and droop settings for the front and rear? Front caster? Tire shore? Front shock position on the shock tower?

Of course when the spacer is taken out, the rear traction of the car goes up because this makes the rear roll center lower and hence makes the rear of the car roll better. Then again, Serpent does not recommend using zero spacers on the rear bulkhead. Some kind of spacer is needed for correct camber change.

Even on my Lola bodied Impulse PRO with the rear floating mount, I manage to snug in a 3 mm spacer with the limited space. Come to think of it again, the rear foating mount never had the intention of having spacer on the upper rear bulkhead... Will try it out without spacers...
