Really?? Then why the change on Rheinard and Maezumi's car?? Also, do we really need to get TA05 belts then if the difference only lies with the diff pulleys, because I'd have thought that you'd have been able to simply slacken the tension to make up that difference?

I am really keen to try it out, just want to make sure of everything that I need to get.

Not 100% sure why they are using the pullies but I think it a little more efficient with the plastic pullies. I have fitted TA05 diff/spool pullies on my MSX with standard white belts, you need to adjust the cams to the loose side

Don't use TA05 belts on your 415 they won't fit no matter what. the main advantage i see with using the centre pulleys would be that they're cheaper to change than the alloy one, efifciency wise it won't change anything, the efficiency of the drivetrain isn't a function of the friction between the pulley and the belt since there isn't any movement between them.

Great. So really all that you need to get is TA05 Diff Pulleys. Great!

see posts 13082 & 13084 above...the change in internal drive ratio better suits the chassis for modified racing on large tracks....perhaps setting-up for the upcoming worlds event.

It allows to gear for very low turn mod motors.

with the higher internal ratio, (2.25 with the white diff to 2.1875 stock) you would have to go up almost one tooth on the pinion to achieve the same roll-out ratio? perhaps the change is better suited for modified racing?
Got this direct from Dave Spashett

"Anyway yes with ran the different transmission, better punch and top speed and way more run time ! simply better in all departments."

Good thing I have some of the pulleys on order

Ed,
Have you just ordered the diff pulleys then, or the layshaft ones aswell? Any chance of some part no's aswell.... lol

Cheers

how do you manage to fit the TA05 layshaft and centre pulleys???

Anyone tried it?

I think its just the diff / oneway pulleys that are being changed...

So for 27T Stock racers, the conversion to the TA05 centre pulley and diff pulleys is not worth it?

I think you'll find Delrin pulleys (if they are Delrin) have lower friction and much better wear properties than alloy pulleys. This was my experience back when I raced a Pro2 competitively in modified years ago. If drivetrain efficiency isn't a function of friction between the pulley and the belt, then why are there so many people running the white belts?

Can you tell me what friction is involved in there ? There are teeth in this drivetrain so no the friction between the pulleys and the belts is in no way influencing the efficiency, just because there is no slip involved, only small movements between the belt and the pulley from when you go from on to off power or the opposite.

The white belts are more flexible than the black ones, because they are a different material (which is also quite crap in terms of longevity) that's the only reason why they sort of give a better efficiency. I've been running both types of belts and frankly can't tell the difference on the track, that's why i use black belts, they last a lot longer.
