Mixed Compounds Most people around here run slightly harder compounds on the front compared to the rear (usually 45/42 or 42/40 f/r) so, yeah, it's fairly normal or typical. If you think about it, too, it makes sense.

Compound Rating If you are in a place where you get Jaco foams, they aren't in shore ratings, they are in color - Ppl is about 40, Double Ppl is 42, that is what a lot of people run. I think Jaco is coming out with a new "plaid" but I don't know exactly what that is yet.

warped tire - Don't know anything you can do about that. I have tried bending it back a bit, but never gotten it right. I usually either run it if it doesn't wobble too much and if it doesn't feel bad, otherwise I relegate it to practice.

I recently got an Ofna Colt 10 on road. I talked to my sales rep @ Ofna Steve. He told me because I wont be running on a permament track to try the 45-40 or 40-35 but I might need to go past the 5 shore difference, 40-30 maybe. Or a 35-30.
Any thoughts? The local track is blown off, thats it. Fine textured asphalt.

Default Settings for foam

Hi Guys,

Great thread, I'm learning loads!!

One question:

To stop foam tyres chunking what do you need to do with your cars settings?

Softer suspension?
Shocks upright or more of an angle
Camber?
Toe-in?
Caster?

I'm running a Mugan MTX-2

Thanks in advance

To help with chunking, I understand that when you true the tires - - round off the corners.

Avoid chunking by:

-Trimming your wheel openings larger then you would for a concours body. Really though open them up and test hit your body from behind make sure your body cannot get snagged under a wheel.

-dont hit walls. (ya i know none of us here hit walls)

-round the edges of your tires after truing

I personally use fast tires or Ufra
just because that is what i get a good
deal on as for different brands they all
seem to work it's just that i already
know which shore to use for my car
on fast tires and ufra. as for rubber
vs foam i only go to rubber tires for
concrete tracks or a real dusty track.

Sure sure. This is second to "The curb jumped out right in front of me. I swear."

LOL, he he - - but much fatter ! ! And it was the curb that jumped out in front of my 1:1 car ! ! Twice, I swear ! !
Actually he hit me twice in a large parking lot where we had set up cones.
Both times he had trouble starting his car, got it going - - then did a one man drag race across the "Track".
Then he did basically the same thing to someone else 2 weeks later. So that was 2 bent chassis.
Cant get the drag race mentality out of some folks, ERF ! !

How about shore #'s for a blown off but otherwise unprepped Parking lot track (very new & fine textured)? Lower the shore? And/or go to more than 5 shore difference? Like a 45/37? Or can I get 37/30?

Thanks,
Roj.

yeah, these cars are heavy enough and powerful enough to make softer tires flex more so the cars would get, as you very well put it, squirmy.

shouldn't really need softer tires - the cars are heavy enough to generate the heat needed to make the tires stick - they always do for me at 40ish.

Thanks Mugen Man, I'm going with 2 hole pistons all around, 80 wt/f & 60wt/r. I think I'll try the 42/37 combo. I still havent worn out the foams the Colt 10 came with, they are Ok. Who knows what oil came in the kit. But the car is close to hooking up now. I can power out of a turn at all but full throttle.

Default What is Shore Rating?

So what is shore ratings on tires anyways? How is it different from durometer readings? And can you compare the two? If so, how?

I understand the the lower the durometer rating, the softer the tire. Same from the shore ratings. I'm just trying to figure out why people went away from using a durometer?

And can you measure a shore rating on a tire? If so, what do you use?

thanks.
