501x World Edition for me. Ran a xxx-4 G+ for years, but the tamiya car is one sweet ride.
It may be expensive at times, but you get what you pay for.
You can always get parts from tamiya directly if you need to....

I think if I were looking used perhaps....but this is now the B44 car if I'm not mistaken.

Go get yourself a Lazer zx-5 SP and you will have no regrets, I raced mine at 5 different tracks and about for different layout changes at home. I Haven't touched the set-up.

It doesn't have a spur problem, it will strip if your motor comes loose though. Happened to me once and it was purely my fault.

The weakness this car has is that it is not pretty like a carbon fiber b44,501x, or d4.

I wouldn't go with the lazer rtr if you gutting the electronics. It's not the same as a SP

I'd still like a side by side comparasion of the 2 buggies.....or a list of what exactly is upgraded on the SP over the Ready Set

That was in response to the rtr zx-5 which he specifically asked about. that thing is like dropping a glass vase off a table. and it dosn't matter how bad a driver you are a car should be durable.

Personally first B44 than HB D4 have seen all others and those are the only two I would consider the bj4 is good but I do not know about what parts are interchangeable to see if they are stocked at your local track just my .02 cents

The entire suspension geometry is different on the SP.

Shocks (big one right here), Front wheels, suspension arms, axles, plastic material (ithink), caster blocks, hubs, bearings, aluminum front pivot block, and maybe the diffs.

also the body and wing is different. plus the tires you will prolly throw in the trash.

There is an SP upgrade kit but it is now out of production. It is called LAW35.

Here are some great photos of the SP conversion here:
