Yes, I would agree with fmolzer to go with the OS engine. Easy to tune and idles good. OS engines tend to have better low end torque characteristics which is good for small tracks and good for cars like the Impulse and the 705 that have low drive ratios.

If you're more adventurous, you can go with a NovaMega S12 RE 3 port engine or the Novarossi S3 or even the RB X12 3 port engine. All are good engines. A little more difficult to tune but once you develop the skills to tune it, your car will fly like a rocket

Remember, engine HP is not everything. Driving skills is one thing but I place clutch setup and gearing above all else when it comes to speed. With a normal 3 port turbo engine in the old Impulse, I helped a friend of mine beat a Reflex NT with a Rody tuned engine on the straights with the correct gearing and clutch setup. Well it was an evil combination of the 13T/16T old fixed Centax clutchbell and the 17T, 22T and 47T pulleys

p/s: Damn, I wondered how long I could stay "Technically Evil" with 666 post

modellor, welcome to the pits... Hope the pit would benefit from your vast experiences.

Woow, did it take very long for the 705 kit to arrive at your door step? I thought the last you mentioned that you will be receiving your kit was like in January this year...

Has anyone seen the Sirio 12 on the 705?
I'm not saying that you would have problems. I have not seen a Sirio in a Impulse / 705 yet. But on the .21 Sirio engines on the 950, they have aligning issues with the 2 speed spurs and the pinions.

Anyway like what fmolzer mentioned, you would need to figure out the shimming as it is different from the Nova varients.

Yeah, our Serpent dealer ordered 30 cars last year and is only getting the last of the order now. He was told January but when he visited the factory 3weeks ago they didnt even have a full kit available.

It still hasnt reached my door yet. My team mate has it at his house so I should get it tonight or tomorrow. Hope to run it on Sunday.

Chachi, yes stick w/ what you have and learn the car b4 you invest in a new engine. Finishing a race is more inportant than going fast and not!

It depends, what clutch are you using? A normal spread on the gears is about 3 teeth on the spur i.e. 49/46. You can deviate a little bit but the price is less than perfect gear mesh. what other gears do you run except the 14 tooth?

Where did you find a 14t pinion that fits the cantax bell? The only one that Serpent lists is the 15t that I just bought along with the 50t spur.

I think there is a picco centax type clutch that you can use that has a 14 tooth 1:st gear on it. I have seen that on a couple of cars, but I am not aware of a 14 tooth tath will work with the new centax II system.

Im running the stock gears..i bought the 14 tooth in sanantonio last week, it is a valid serpent part, made from the same material.(aluminum) ,,i am running a centax clutch..and the 14 tooth pinion does in fact screw onto the clutch.

lost man, can you confirm if you are using the centax clutch or the standard clutch that was included in the impulse/streetspec/pro kits?
