REDS Engines (Mario Rossi)
#151
Actually that is incorrect, they are not "just" Piccos, if so, they would look and run exactly the same. They don't. They are based on the same engine block, but that is about it. The milling, cuts and mods are all based on Mario's knowledge to build the best quality engine he can. Additionally, REDS uses high quality Swiss made bearings. The attention to detail, quality, usability and longevity of the engine is what Mario and the company's main objective for this brand is.
I have not seen a 9886 pipe personally, so it would be interesting to see how that does work out.
REDS is about to release a new pipe system for off-road. So stayed tuned for more info on that.

Will be interesting to see if REDS will come with a completely new pipe, or if itīs the new Picco pipe or the new Hipex pipe.

Ran my R5T at the first race of the season this past weekend. I qualified 2nd and was in 2nd with a decent lead until I got taken out by lapped traffic which ended the race with a broken front carrier.
The weather was all over the place warm then cold dry at the beginning and humid when rain started heading in towards the end of the day. I didn't have to touch the needles all day the engine was perfect idled awesome and temp was consistent at 23X. This engine has a great power band and plenty of power. Very happy with the R5T. Also I run at 5000+ ft and normally when the weather changes you have to chase the tune alot very happy this engine stayed consistent says alot about REDS!

Mine took a set at a little less than 3/4 gallon, and has been great ever since! Like was said in a previous post, I could pretty much epoxy my needle adjustments the way they are, after over 6 gallons I almost never have to touch the tune up! I couldn't be happier with the preformance and fuel economy that it has and best of all it is dependable.

Wish I could offer more help as I have no idea between the different affects of the carb needles, but as far as the pipes go the 2069 was geared more for the buggy with good power and a linier feel. The 2099 just became available this week and i have one coming to test out, but it is suppose to have great power and even better fuel economy.

used my R5t with 2069 pipe yesterday at the 2012 Phillipine Off-Road Natinals which was an IFMAR sanctioned race and the one and only Mr.Scotty Ernst calling the shots for the entire race. started on the last place on the grid for the A-main and went up till 3rd then race was stopped due to rains with still 20 mins left on the 1 hour long mains.did well i may say finishing 4th overall. THE ENGINE DID SO WELL IT NEVER FLAMED OUT EVEN WITH THE DRASTIC AND SUDDEN CHANGES IN TEMP AND HUMIDITY.RACE DAY STARTED SUNNY IN THE MORNING AND ENDED RAINING.
