Default Bigger battery vs. smaller battery

What is everyone's thought on battery to run in 17.5 TC. I am hearing guys are running the 8000 mah batteries. I just want to hear people's thoughts on is it more important to have a larger battery and make the car over weight or run a smaller battery and be right at the weight limit.

Most of the touring cars today are under weight, so must run 8000+mah and still have to add weight. I personally have to add 40 grams and I use 8400. Most run big capacity cells cause they maintain a higher voltage throughout a 5-6min run. In my experience, 6000mah tend to drop off after 3 mins.

What about on small, tight tracks? Is the higher capacity for stock racing at a better advantage than lower capacity battery but slightly better balanced car? (assuming same weight, 21.5 blinky) Just curious..

I run my 6000 packs and have no issues with drop off after 3 minutes. We race 6 minutes at my track and no issues. Just finished 2nd at the Snowbirds in 17.5 Super Stock TC and had no fade issues there either.

Its all about your total package and how your car gets around the track.

I don't doubt it one bit, I've read reviews of your batteries EA, and heard they are phenomenal!

I am currently running the Protek 6300 high voltage packs charged to 8.44 volts. After my race I am putting in around 2600-2700 mah to fully charge. This amount is what had me start thinking about needing to go to larger packs. My lap times do not fade more than .2 throughout the race

if your 6000mah pack is dropping off after 3 minutes you have some real issues with your pack , i use 5000mah in 21.5,17.5 and in mod never have an issue with dropping off.

Possibly issues with that particular 6000. I just seem to be able to clock the same lap times towards the end of a race as I do at the beginning with big capacity cells. I can't really seem to produce the same results with let's say my 6000. But glad to see you guys have luck with your 5000-6000. Maybe my car is balanced well with 8000+mah. Possibly driving style has a lot to do with it.

Bigger cells have also a lower resistance what will give more punch comming out of the corners.

No one seems to mention the quality of the cells, which is going to have a bigger impact than capacity. Even IR doesn't tell the full story.
Marcos.J, *SBH* and jlfx car audio like this.

Not always true. Depends on the quality of the cells.

Sure, but if you take the best of the large packs and the best of the shorty then the larger will probably have the lower resistance.

EA, how much do your 6000 2s packs weigh? Is thete any difference in the cells between the lcg and standard packs? Lastly, when will the lcg packs be back in stock?

ea 6k lgc pack 278g
i cycled our new std ea 6k packs last week at birds along with a 8400
ea's pack still had lower resistance and with @35a load preformed within 5 sec to 8v of the 8400 .

Thanks for the info. Wow, big difference between the lcg6k and standard 6k. Definitely not the same cells then.
