Nope, the pics weren't of Josh's car. The pics are about mid-way (or passed mid-way) through if you view them from beginning to end. The rear end looked similar to the HB Cyclone, BMI, Xray rear ends with an aluminim shaft going across the upper rear pod. I would link to it here, but can't access the rc50 site from work.

the non-standard R5 at the Nats was being run by Bob Stellflue. I think his pod was prototype stuff and it did have the aluminum crossbar much like a HB cyclone12. It was unique looking on an R5 but unlikely to yield a noticeable performance advantage because the standard R5 pod is really quite good. It's true that the standard R5 pod doesn't quite center the brushless motors but it's not nearly so off center as lots of cars (most notably the Serpent which has the motor VERY FAR off center). It is possible to adapt the 1/10th scale parts to the 1/12th scale car and to get the short diff hub if you absolutely must have a centered motor. But the recent top results of the Serpent car which has it's motor far more off center than the R5 would indicate that it's not necessary to worry about the motor position. I can tell you from experience that the R5 works great just as it come out of the box, without any mods or upgrades needed.

We had some racers bend more than 1 of these as well, so I made a run of motor mounts for the RC12R5 and RC10R5 out of 7075 aircraft grade material. We have not seen any of these bend as of yet. You can check them out at www.teamtamale.com

Just the motor side at this time. If there is enough interest I could make up some left side plates.

You might be able to use the motor plate on both sides. I will check later this week and let you know.

Running 13.5/3.7LiPO here, 80' x 35' sized carpet track. We're gearing the 13.5 with 3.7 aorund the same as a 17.5 on 4 cells. LRP x11 ran well at 3.3" rollout with endbell timing reduced as far as possible and max timing boost on the Tekin RS. The Hacker 13.5 seemed to like a tooth or two more gear than the LRP same timing and speedo setup. Most of us are coming off the track 110-130 degrees after an eight minute run. Could gear higher, but it doesn't seem to produce better runs... maybe a bit faster in the early laps, but countered by significantly slwoer laps in the back half of a run.

Some guys are changing the pod to move the brushless motor further to the right to get it more centered in the car. There's no real consensus whether it's really necessary or not. The upper and lower rear pod plates from the 10th scale 10R5 are what you'd use.,.. then you'd also need a narrow right side wheel hub to complete the conversion. With the BMI, IRS, or CRC cars, the narrow right side hub is machined to be the same width as the standard hub,m they just move the wheel mounting flange inboard to get the wheel in closer to the pod. BEcause the hub itself is the same width, all the diff parts work the same as with the standard hub.

Associated's narrow right hub is not made to be the same width, the whole hub is narrower. This hub requires a longer thrust spacer to clear the end of the axle. That's why Slapmastermaster offers the two versions for the R5... If you put the wider pod on the car and use an IRS, BMI, or CRC right side hub, you'd want the standard Slapmaster thrust kit. If you put the wider poid on and use the Associated narrow hub, then you'd want Slapmaster's kit for the 12R5 with the 10R5 pod. That kit will have a longer thrust spacer to work with the narrow hub from Associated.

Hope that makes sense...

How about if you put this with the yeah racing brainless 13 turn brushless motor. Does it perform as well as 4 cell nimh.
