It was never a national rule that you could not run a 1-way. There were only a hand full of local track rules. There was a ban on them from the USVTA Scale Nats but that was only for 1 of the 7 years its been running. I ran one last year at the scale nats as did a few others. Its more a tuning option than it is anything else. I dont run it all the time but there is a time and a place where I like it better over a spool.

Otherwise, both axles should provide excellent steering while on power in a corner.
Less braking force with the one way (only rear brakes) and from my experience much more off power steering than a spool right up to the point you start accelerating out of the corner then they are about the same. I like the spool as my car brakes better and turns in much more predictably than with the one way. I've read some are using front gear diffs with very heavy oil (or putty). I got a gear diff, but haven't tried that yet. Should be very similar to a spool but perhaps more forgiving on parts upon a heavy hit. But both my USVTA and USGT cars are within 2 grams of the weight limits now and I don't want to add any more weight.

There is a coupon code for $10 off of 100 so really $90. I have been using my 25.5 Novak motor for over 4 years now. Still working well enough to put in the the A at the Scale nats a couple weeks ago. I don't have any other motors I could say the same about. My ORCA just cost me $95 so it's really no different other then I doubt the ORCA will be in my car 4 years from now.

EDIT - I thought I would set the record right. I got the 25.5 ballistic when it was released. That makes it ONLY 3 years old. I totally forgot about the 21.5 days and I had a different motor when I first started USVTA. MY BAD.

But to preserve the spirit of VTA's 'keeping the cost down', a $50 sticker would be much nicer.

The initial cost is what often keeps people from joining RC hobby.

Oh sweet baby jesus... Cheaper is normally not going to be better made... Sure get a $50 motor and buy a new one every year. You do the math on that.

If someone wants to get into the hobby for less they could buy someones motor and gear getting out of the hobby or class.

Yep. All budget racers start out with used stuff because of the high initial cost.
A $50 motor doesn't have to die every year. Even if it did, if a $50 motor can compete against a $100 motor for a full year, I might buy a fresh $50 motor every year. Just my $0.02.

Effective March 31,2014

Novak R/C is implementing MAP pricing for all Dealers.

We received notification of this on 2/28/14, from Novak. What a LHS sells them for may be different or lower.

There really needs to be another approved motor to get the companies competing to lower prices.

I've had my Novak BOSS 25.5 motor since Christmas 2013 and just last week got it to run correctly wih the help of many people here on RCTECH, at NOVAK, and friends both at my local track here in San Antonio and in Austin! IMO Serious quality control issues at Novak since you bought your motor 4 years ago! On the other hand, my ORCA 21.5 motor ran great right out of the box just like all the other brushless motors I've had (both on road and off road) since I went brushless in 2006! Had USVTA not gone to a 25.5 motor, I'm sure the 21.5 motor I had in the car in 2007 would still be in my USVTA car today. I like USVTA, I'm just not a fan of a single source for anything, unless that source is chosen by competition and the best performer is chosen (not the lowest cost). BTW I've never had a single problem with any of those other motors either and some were Novaks.

You do realize that if you look at 17.5 motors for example that with the exception of just a few, most cost the same. There are plenty to choose from and the cheaper motors are not making the big brand motor prices come down any.

Talk to your local track and see if it's OK to run a different motor if you want. Just at larger USVTA events you won't be able to use it.

its was illegal at the Scale Nats back in 2011 or 2010....but it was to keep ppl from running all over each other...but never in the rules itself

but plenty of ppl run them, I cant drive a car with a one-way so spool or gear diff for me
