Default How to conduct a trade?

Hi, I'm interested in trading with another member. I have no feedback and they actually have some feedback. I'm assuming trading is done like this: I send item and wait for the other guy to send his item after mine is received? Is this the only way or is there something better/safer for both parties?

Trades are never safe, unless it's an established member here.

Some members have the policy that the person with lower feedback ships first. I'm not advocating this, just something I have seen often.

Does the other member have substantial feedback? If not, I think I would stay far away from any trades. Sometimes it's safer to sell your item and buy whatever you want.

I only trade local where both of us can look over the items. It is to easy for one of the two parties to be disappointed and they hard feeling and the angry words start flying. Unless it is something really rare or old and special you can probably find one when your ready to buy outright.

It seems people put a higher value on trade items vs selling out right. When I trade I would like the value of each party to be about the same, unless its partial, then some $ is involved. I've been hit hard with online trades and even in person, even had a friendship end over a trade.

It depends upon whom I'm trading with, if it was you that I was trading with I would have no problem shipping first because I know my stuff is first rate and so is yours. Their are a few guys that I would trade with. I don't have a ton of feedback but what I do have is first rate.

Highly situational, but I've had good luck trading on this site. Beyond the potential traders feedback, I generally go through their posts to get an idea of how they conduct themselves towards others. I also google the username, as a lot of times they tend to have other interests and are a part of other forums using the same user id and location, and I check them out there as well. Not perfect, but its worth a try.

There should also be lots of communication from both ends before any packages get sent. You should know exactly what you're getting and so should they. If they are unwilling to do this, just walk away.
