NEW 1/8th IC On-Road Body by PROTOform
Press Release:
PROTOform "PFR18" - 1/8th IC Nitro On-Road Body
2011 was a spectacular year for PROTOform in the 1/8th IC Nitro On-Road class. Not only did 8 of the A-Main finalists at the IFMAR WORLDS in
Homestead FL choose the P909 body, but the other 2 A-Main drivers chose to use the newer Protoform R15, which ran the quickest lap times of
the entire event. In the end, Robert Pietsch brought home the very deserving win and trophy.
We decided to incorporate the best characteristics of these two bodies into one, to create the Protoform PFR18. Loosely modeled after the car that
conquered the 24HR of LeMans, this body style has a few tricks of it's own as well. There are a few more molded-in body stiffening contours to make
the body more consistent. The EFRA legal (#31525) body conforms to all ROAR/IFMAR body rules.
Available in 3 thicknesses - .040 LexanŽ (regular weight) #1530-40, .030 LexanŽ (light weight) #1530-30 and .025 LexanŽ (lightest weight)
"Pro-Lite" #1530-25 for the expert racer. This body has a protective outer film, body side-stiffeners (w/hardware) and comes with a large PROTOform decal.
It's sure to keep Protoform's winning tradition going!

Amazing!
Does enyone knows when it's going to be on market?

s.i.jerefos: The "PFR18" has been in production for about a few days, and they've started to fill distributor orders. It takes a while for the whole distributor/dealer network to be filled - especially when distibutors have a cautious "we'll wait and see" kind of attitude toward new products.
The depressed economy in the last 3 years has had many of them thinking that way unfortunately.

Can we expect production series without an EFRA number like we have seen with previous models?

Roelof;
NO. This mold and the new "SRS" sedan have been sitting idle since the middle of Nov/11 awaiting the EFRA numbers.

Dale, When you're designing 1/8 body shells what kind of testing methods do you use?
Are you running these things in any type of CFD program or small wind tunnels? or are they just track tested by good drivers?
I know it's a daft question but I find the fine tuning of race cars through aerodynamics really interesting, if not somewhat a bit of a black art.
Jim.
