pit shimizu 20 or 25 with firm inserts. but it really depends on what the fast guys on your track use.

Try Sorex 24 rear and 28s in the front. I use the Sorex B insert for stock. Also Pit 24R in the rear and Pit 27R in the front will work good. I think the Pit 25s are no longer made. The new compunds are 20R,24R,27R,30R, in these I use Pit medium inserts. Try Speedtechrc.com. They have tire/insert/wheels combos for real cheap.

Xpress team tires, with stock inserts, are an excellent starting point for a carpet track. They have tons of traction and wear fairly good. You can also use HPI Black Pro Molded Soft Inserts in them for more even tire wear.

For high quality non-fuzzy carpet, slicks like the Sorex28r are much better than the Xpress tires.
