Cheapest? Car battery, actually a deep cycle marine battery. Deep cycle batteries are desgined to provide power for a long period of time before charging.

Most convenient? Generator.

Yesterday I had a strange feeling looking at a row of MANY generators at our club race (it sounded like an airport on the side where everyone puts out their gear) and just the day before I was watching "Live Earth".......

I am as guilty as everyone else; I just toped of my new Yamaha generator and used a fraction of the power I was burning off into the air. Anyone else see a problem here?

I'll gladly share my power. Maybe we (racers and club organizers) can have a power sharing program and at least cut down the noise pollution

amen to that.. if you don't own a generator, ask to pay for all of the gas since they own the generator and spare our ears and maybe save fome fuel..

If they bought the inverters it would really save our ears.I've always had enough power to have someone plug into my generator over the years. When I using my trailer I don't but if I'm under my tent anyone is welcome.

"Big Lots" stores have a small 4 stroke generator that's a 1000 watts for $150.00

I try to put my generaor at least 200' from the pit area. Extention cords are cheap and I have lots anyhow. Yes mine is loud but I can power 4-6 guys so I always offer up my power, everyone usally chips in and buys me lunch and gives me a few bucks for gas...I whole tank is $10 and lasts about 4-6 hours depending on the load. But pretty much it works out pretty good plus the stinking loud monster is 200' away and dosn't really bug ya being that far away.

Costco has pretty good sized...i.e. 3500-4500watt generators for around $280-380 which is pretty cheap.

Hope that helps,

careful running too much extension cord.. line loss is a bear.. good quality 12/3 cord will help..

Someone I know was selling those 1000 watt jobs.Everyone I saw was _____.The coleman 1800 is a fairly good generator but noisy. At my old age I would rather go with the quiet. After you get an inverter generator you'll know what I'm talking about. You get what you pay for- always!

Another option would be to check with your local tool rental place and share the cost of a larger unit. I rented 7K to 12K units for around $75 a day, and powered quite a few racers on it. (I'm guessing around 20+ people, plus the computer/p.a. equiptment)

Plus, my rental place didn't charge for Sundays (when they're closed) so you'd make out if you rented on Saturdays for a Sat/Sun event.

We'd place the unit behind a full scale vehicle (and farther away) to keep the noise down.

Plus yes, you'd need at least 12/3 gauge cords to help with power loss....

Not as quiet as mine. The 1000 the guy here was selling was a piece of junk.- His group bought them by the container loads.I've got one of his 3000's for a spare-It was cheap. If you live in Florida there are benifits on getting a generator of at least 3000 watts. It may be alittle harder to move around but in Hurricane season it will power your referigator, fan,TV and radio and computer. What will your 1000 do?I had mine also do the neighbors stuff too on an extension cord. It's a good way to justify your expense to your other half.
