B4 diff question
The differential on my b4 sounds pretty smooth but every now and then there will be an ugly grinding metal sound or plastic on metal, is it because maybe the tranny needs to be relubed? or the diff needs to be remade?

Check your diff for tightness....Re-tighten if necessary...If your diff is tight, tear the tranny apart and inspect everything.

Also, you do not need to worry about lubricating the gears, as they self lubricating (oil impregnated). You can still add a drop of oil if you want, but excess grease/oil will just add drag and attract 'grime'. Also, check that your pinion and spur are meshed correctly- if you have them a little too loose, the noise you are hearing is the pinion spinning on the spur.

I would start by checking the tightness of your diff, if that seems fine It might be that your slipper is to tight and its not slipping and it being to tight is causing the diff to slip. This would make like a "barking" sound. Good luck!

I have no slipper since im using the spur adaptor so i can run a 68 spur on their and the diff is tight but it still makes the noise

Your diff is toast then, and possibly the diff gear. The noise you hear is probably the diff rings rubbing the diff gear because the diff balls are smaller then when you started out. Replace diff balls, dff rings and the gear to be safe.

When you say "every now and then", the diff can slip under high load, that's what it's there for. It makes a "barking" kind of noise if it's set properly, and sounds AWEFUL, but it's doing no harm.
THey key is, the slipper should be whining whenever you give it full tits from a stop or on high-bite surfaces, the diff should only "bark" when you swing into a tight turn at speed.
