what does it mean when your engine has all kinds of charred black stuff on top of the piston, and all around the exhaust port / ports ? looks like carbon build up.

not sure if this is bad, just would like to know what it is and what it means.

pre ignition , add a head shim . that is if the carbon build up is extremely bad . need pics of the mentioned engine to tell you if its abnormal or not

just wonderin why sidewinder fuel was mentioned ? i have been using sildewinder for a couple of years now with no problems. Actuallly i like it and no I don't use any after run oil and never have had a problem

could be a fuel issue, or a tune issue. I have ran a few different fuels, and some left alot more carbon then others. I recently switch fuels, due to my normal fuel was not available, for a while. I instanly seen that carbon was building up quickly. Although the lubrication quality seemed that it may have been better (due to how "slimey" it felt), I opted to switch fuels again, only after 1 gallon. Now running another brand, and things look pretty sweet.

If running rich all the time, this could be leaving alot of residule stuff behind also?

ok... It is a go 7port, around 3gallons..... running byrons 30% / 9% with a OD97T plug... motor runs good, I have not had any problems, just do not like what it looks like inside.....

Wow, that looks like A$$. have you tried to clean that off? Acetone or something?

Your running byrons Gen 2 right? you dropped down to the lower oil content 9% instead of 11%? How much of that have you run?

could the lower oil content be an issue?

Hopefully they send you another go tech, WINK, WINK!

looks like your running rich.

to clean it off use 00 steel wool for the top of the piston and the head. do not touch the inside of the sleeve with anything but a soft cloth.

I would be careful how you clean off that carbon. The head buttons are easy to clean with polish. As for the sleeve, unless the carbon is building up in the ports, I would leave it alone. Maybe clean the outside with polish, but don't go crazy try to make it spotless. Build up is normal and the black carbon will coat the areas where no friction occur, leaving a coating. Any thick layer on the top of the piston usually can be removed generally by using the edge of a piece of hard plastic to scrap it off. Other than that, it should be fine. And don't touch the sides or the inside of the sleeve as you can or will affect the seal and compression of the engine.

By the looks of the internals , it looks like there is a loth of castor oil in the fuel ? I have not seen black carbon like stuff in a very long time(since the early 80's) like that on your sleeve ports ? That stuff is VERY hard to get off so you will be in for a challange for sure! Check your pipe too ,it may have some seroius build up inside it as well .
That engine looks like it has a ton of fuel through it ?

its the damn byrons fuel...same with Tilted 30(exact same stuff)...leaves a Nasty residue that other Race fuels dont...like OD 30....ive been told that ANY color to the fuel is obviously dye'd and chances are a colored fuel will leave more carbon then say a Clear fuel with No dye....and like ezveedub said...be Very careful as to what u use on the P+S to clean that stuff off.
