For me...yes...the Xray shock is an improvement.
The Losi shock really wants to be built with only one o-ring. This means more servicing to keep it performing properly for the Gen-X 10.
Recently built some high end Tamiya 415/416 shocks for my Corally Phi TC car. Have to give them an A+ rating (on my Phi); but, I can buy Xray shocks in sets of two as opposed to four for the Tamiya units.

I had had one go on the track, think the tread had been weakened cos it just gave out under power whilst on a new FTD pace, fortunately my previous time took me to pole.
Love this car with 2s 13.5, good speed and drivability.

Have some Kyosho Teflon coated shocks from my now retired Nitro car, may look at using one of those if it can give even more rear bite.

It is a damper, not a spring, and its job is to slow down the movement of the moving part, in this case the whole rear motor pod.
but i will stand to be corrected if wrong.

Changed my mind on this tonight. I was at the track for practice tonight, as was playing around with the center spring. Going lower made the spring seem harder.
Becuse the motor pod is mounted by the football, the pivot is at that point. So when the pod pivots, the shock mounting point doesnt only move forward but moves in the downward direction. That downward movement is inline with the travel of the shock absorber, making the spring move more for the amount of axle travel (higher wheel rate). So making the shock parrallel to the ground would make it seem softer.
