I know of a few guys who tested heavily with the lipo packs .. a few of the top level packs and with all there different methods... nimh was still 2 tenths faster.
So until there is a reduction in the weight of the cars nimh for now has the edge on lipos ( in there current state ) .

If you look at the discharge graphs, some LiPo's seems to have a voltage advantage (check the SMC thread). It's not clear if that plays out under lower load, though.
I've kind of accepted that LiPo will be slower, and I'm fine with that in club races. If there's a way to make it comparable (with heating perhaps), that would make big races more tolerable, so that I wouldn't have to spend a bunch of money on packs I probably wouldn't use for more than a week.
I'm not looking for a battery war, just trying to get a clear picture of where things really stand. It's hard to get a straight answer on how much testing is really being done, and if people are doing the things they need to, like heating packs and/or possibly gearing up. And, of course, what packs they're running in the first place.

Did you guys know there's some lap times available for this race? If you check the "race results" section on liverc, you can see one of the practice rounds.

I've tooled guys who were using brushless / lipo top end gear while I was running a brushed motor pulling 3amps and a 4200 that took a max charge of 3600. I've also had my A$$ handed to me when running fresh packs and motors against Boice/Timmah/Sean and they were using substandard gear. So of course the driver is the ultimate power.... that said, on a club level the newer drivers seem to really get a huge benefit from not having to time their charging cycles with a lipo.
Big Race = finess
Club race = fun & learning

It all comes down to getting the car balanced and very few cars are set up to compete with ones designed to run sub-c's. Until we see chassis' being made specifically for lipo, this will continue to be a problem.
Also, the output from lipos is more suited to high drain applications such as airplanes and maybe mod cars (time will tell).
