Rick,
On this set up does mike use the center brace on the front end? its the first one to not have it removed that ive seen.
Thanks Jason

This is with the CRC wheel. The longer hub and Parma wheel may be too wide.

Killer crew up there.
But if you want Rick to show up you better include WCRC, he and the Blue team pretty much live there, and rarely show up at TQ to run on the rug.

Just a reminder...
The ROAR Region 12 indoor regional race is at TQ on Jan15 2012.
I'll be racing the Regionals. Any secret to keeping traction for a full 8 minutes?

Rumor is that the Nats will be at WCRC so will be doing some 1/12 there as well.

It is barely too wide by .5mm per side or so. If you are racing where this is teched you will have to file the wheel down slightly which is pretty easy to do while you are truing tires.

I find that this spacing centers the axle even with an unequal number of shims on each side. I never change the axle so it is possible that each axle is slightly different and requires different shimming.

As far as I know Mike runs the brace.

Having the OnRoad Nats back on the West Coast is cool !
Would prefer to race at Nor-Cal, but at least WCRC is closer than Jersey

As for maintaining grip for 8 mins @TQ
Magentas which worked perfectly last week.
Or Black Yellow, sometimes when the track gets sticky.

I would probably prefer TQ or NC

Hope that asphalt is smooth with no drop offs

What's the tire wear there?

Is this the same indoor asphalt track that was in socal 7 years ago?

What's the benefit of making the rear axle wider?

Using tape plus the three screws is the way to install and remove it. But you can remove the taps that keep the battery from sliding out so that you can remove it this way. The tape alone will keep the batter in place.

Keep in mind that the CRC tires are a different offset than Jaco or Parma. This means the rear axle should be set up with no shims. However I use two shims on the diff side (zero on the hub side) to center the axle.
hello Rick, when you say you use 2 shims on diff side to keep centered,do you mean to keep the spur gear centered with pinion or the actual drive shaft in the center of the rear pod/car? thanks for your help.

The shimming is for centering the rear tires in relation to the chassis. My axle needed .4mm more shims on the diff side for my tires to be centered.

Default front end tip

Thought I would throw a important build tip into the mix. Front kingpin shims are never all exactly the same thickness....so measure them and make sure you have the same total thickness on each kingpin. If you dont, your front droop will be off and setting your cars tweak could be interesting...

Also to go with seans front end build tip with shims... measure the springs as there almost never exactly the same. Also seems that they changed brands.. als last year the springs used to be a silver spring now ther a greenish...Also i notice the newer springs last alot longer as they dont crush within 2 runs.. Another thing to measure if ur notice alot of front droop measure the size of the spring. Dont hold me to it as i dont have the notes infront of menew springs come in a round 24.8- 25.0 after they get under 24.0 to 23.8 trash them..

In what units are those numbers?

had an interesting night last night. only thing i changed was 30wt in the side shock. car seemed to change direction a lot faster so with some practice got it around the track pretty well.

though, first heat of the night, i tapped and was out with a busted upper link turnbuckle. I got all the plastic bits for the front end but never thought id break a titanium turn buckle..

no one had a associated one, but i managed to make a larger diameter one work by reaming out the eyelet and a new arm.
was weird though. turnbuckle broke off cleanly at the arm side..

won the next qualifier without major event. a few taps but nothing major.
went on to place second in my main, bumped to the next one and coming around the sweeper, went wide, hit the wall and wheel went flying lol.

broke the axel.

never thought id break the metal parts so easily.
aside from the turnbuckle end broken in the arm, the arm was intact, and the steering knuckle is intact.

oh well, the night ended nice at least. we do raffles at the end of the night with prizes. won a new crc audi body. my speed12b was getting pretty mangled so this is good stuff.

only my second night of 12th racing, so not bad results aside from busting stuff i thought unbustable.

Did well with my first carpet race this past weekend. I am happy with the way my 12r5 handled. I ran the 17.5 non ramped class with about six or seven other guys. I got the fastest lap and then they decided it was bogus because the next lap was the same and I accidentally cut a corner. ha Oh well I had a blast. The groove came in and magenta/magenta worked out well. Learning to take my time with making sure everything is set up right and working smoothly. I had forgot how important it is to be so technical when setting up these cars.
