I am gathering some parts to build my first buggy ft rc8be. I been in the sc world and now try something new. Really thinking of getting these over ae ft tapered. Love the concept.
Would anyone have any setup recommendations and or what changes from stock. Also your thoughts on how buggy handled after. My track is little rough not to hard dirt with alot of dust/cushion. Also they would work in my sc8e? It uses buggy big bores same as the buggy

Symetricon drives the buggy that i used for testing and his is pretty dialed in. first thing you notice on his is how quick the steering response is but it does not overwhelm the rear. im trying to get my buggy to drive like his!! Dont hold me to this but im pretty sure we have out of the box pistons with 35/30 wt. im sure he will chime in

The pistons are not car specific but shock specific so if it is the same shock than it will work!

Are the rc8 pistons on your website the same for rc8be with 16mm big bores?
Great to hear. I would perfer not having it drill them. Sounds like i may need them for both cars. I'm sure my friend will follow.

Looking for oil advice/set-up on 4x4 sc10. Track is smooth, hi-traction, and damp most of the time. Running stock springs, 3800/mmp and 4800 saddles.

As of now I have 1.2 pistons and 35/30, truck tends to "donkey" off fast kickers, but does nose down nicely on doubles. The saddle pack mod has surely moved the weight forward, even w/ the packs side by side and back to the brace.

Truck also has a tendency to loose the rear-end on the sweeper. The truck doese corner great. Steering does need to come down a litte.

Wondering if I should go w/ the FT yellow springs in the front as well.

Are you guys using AE brand oils?

Here's to hoping the mail lady shows up w/ my "Kit"......

Here's a video of the track I normally run. Luckily they expanded it quite a bit since this video was shot. But the dirt and overall smoothness is the same. I'm going to get some video of the new track soon.

Forgot to mention, video is of the truck w/ stick packs and no extra ballast, still 3800/mmp, stock springs, home-made 2.0 sways F/r. I'm the red, white and blue truck...don't mind the curb jump...

start with 25ft/30rear with stock springs at first. dont make too many changes until you have played with the piston and oil first. once you get a feel for them then start playing with springs and sway bars. too much font droop is giving you the sweeper issues so your probably going to need to sitffen the front up a bit via sway bars and springs.

pistons are for the ae bigbore shocks.

Well, I made the A for the shootout running a 9 5:00.265. I was the only one up there that didn't get 10 in. Then I finished where I started so that was acceptable considering I was happy with how the truck felt. I ran 30 f/r in the shocks and they felt good.

The big change was moving the rear shocks out on the arm and in on the tower. I wish I could say some technical reason for this but I just copied a winners setup sheet to see what it would do. What I found is this gives a ton of off power steering and once I figured that out I enjoyed how the truck felt. I still think my goal needs to be a setup that allows me to apply power through the corners, but i'll take this for now. Either way, I need stick time to get some consistancy and then I should be making 10's on a regular basis.

As for the shocks, I still need more setup edumakation so I can dial in all they allow, but they feel real good at this point. Once I put some packs on this setup and get used to what it does I might try 25 and see what that does.

Two things:
1- I have found that if you try to light foot it through the washboard section the truck will bounce some, but if you line up and pin it the crazy thing acts as if it just digs into the dirt and flies. It's a blast and honestly, who doesn't like to pin it?

2- It seems to me that going too heavy on the oil takes all the advantage from the pistons. Is it such that going heavy requires bigger holes and does that even gain anything?

Ohh... and I think I found why the truck would act goofy and spin out at odd places. When I rebuilt the diffs I had to double up the gasket on the center and be careful how tight I made the rear. I think the diffs were snug and locking up at random. I need to check with the Losi guys to see what they recommend.

Excellent Buzz! thats good news! i am also laying my shocks down and having good results. Dont over complicate the setup, if it feels good just leave it alone and concentrate on your driving skills for a while. Once you get consistent with your current setup then make some changes. We know for a fact that you can do 10 laps with the last setup because you already did. So work on ALWAYS getting 10 laps with that setup, when you feel that it is easy for you to do it then start making some minor changes.

Boooo!!! I have wrench's that need attention and it's much easier to tune speed then drive speed isn't it? lol

Great advice Marcus, I will leave it alone and put some packs through it. Thanks for your help and time. For the Losi guys, I am 3/3/2 on the diffs.

installation diagram finally!
http://www.rcshox.com/instructions/pistons/

AND i changed the pictures to show four pistons to hopefully clear up the fog about how many pistons come in a set. The reason i had two pistons on the original pic is to show the two different positions of the pistons.
