You can usually tell because the sides and/or leading edge of the chassis and/or leading edge of the motor pod will have some black rubbery stuff on it. One side of the chassis will usually have it over the other depending on what way round you run around the track (clockwise or anti-clockwise). Just wipe it off using a rag and some petrol lighter fluid or brake cleaner.

Lay down a thin layer of Shoe-Goo and then put the tape on it. Lay down another layer over the tape and you're good to go.
If your concerned about the front cracking around the wheel arches like mine does, do what I did and intentionally cut a flex point into the material of from the bottom lip to the top of the fender, and drill a hole at the end of the cut so it wont tear further. Since I did that no more cracks have appeared in the body, at least not at the wheel arches.
You can reinforce the lightweight bodies with Shoe-Goo and wallboard tape. Several of the drivers at my track do this and it does add a few ounces but the bodies last longer. They use that only in the front (where most of the hits are).

I searched the thread but couldn't find it...someone mentioned a way back about a high voltage servo for 1/12th...I think it was a KO but when I go to KO's web site I couldn't find any high voltage servos.

I don't know if they officially have that somewhere on their site (never looked) but I believe there a lot of guys that use KO stuff with higher voltage and have no problems. Maybe in the instructions for the particular servo? I think I remember hearing that the instructions for their Rx's state that they're good to go with 2s LiPo packs.... I think.
12th scale just keeps getting better all the time.
