It's a bit frustrating to hear bad things about an engine like the B5 and then all of a sudden you hear it is fixed but you are not told what fixed it!

It's not that we want to say "I told you so". It's so we can help others that will come here for help.

People come here for help and some get the help needed and then disappear.
That's fine but if you stick around you should post what was the solution so other can benefit from it too!

Thumbs up

We have been selling more and more of the B5 and B6 engines, several of our Team Drivers have changed to them, and have nothing but the best of things to say about them....just fantastic engines and we are proud to offer them I personally dont think there is a better value out there.

The fact that Ron comes on here and helps people out despite the way some people behave on here speaks volumes to me that this man CARES.

As soon as my buggy engine is due for a new one, a B6/2058 WILL be in it.

If I may add something to assist in troubleshooting engine issues, something that I have seen more times than I can count, someone is having trouble with an engine, cussing it and blaming it I ask them to pull their exhaust header off and examine the gasket.
A leaking gasket will make it impossible to tune an engine correctly, so always, always check it out

So I made the switch to werks engines. Coming from a p4c to this engine should be fun, I only right now have my b5 just at maybe a gallon. It seems to have the bottom end pep that Iv wanted, the top end should come to life if I get a 2058 on there, right now I think the 2013 is putting everything down low n I could transfer a lil up top so it will pull longer. Any opinions?

I also have a b5 pro on it's way to try, has anyone had any time in with a b5 pro? Or even a b6 pro? I feel those might have that little extra where I need it, with it having some crank work done over my standard b5. n the b5p will still be probably a bit faster on bottom with the same top as the b6 I think.

horrible tunning, i was fat everywhere. Talked to him on the phone and he walked me through it. Part of the problem is i hear over and over people posting thier needle settings. Well, i live in south louisiana so you can throw all that out the window, i already know this with tuning every other engine i have owned. my final race setting is almost 2 complete turns in from flush on the lsn and about 3 quarters turn in from flush on the high speed needle. Purs like a kitten now.

It aggravating because once i started going past flush even a turn in from it, i would get worried and overly cautious. It is very hummid and hot down here right now, first real heat of the year. I was only getting about 6-7 min per tank which is a huge red flag. but i was still temping in the 230 range. Turns out i have the classic lean top fat bottom too big idle gap. Which I KNOW better and always tune my needles to the gap for the most part.

Idles great now, much much better run time, and is explosive through the whole power range.

thanks guys.

if you live in louisiana it's a whole different ball game. Unless it's spring or fall you have lean out. If i am running nine percent in my ninja/vspec, my lsn is way in.

and yes, after being on the phone with him, i explained in detail what the problem was and he explained in detail how to fix it

I suck but and getting better at tunning thease motors. Seams like it is not just me. People at the track with the new vspecs are having a helluva time learning the new carbs which i understand is alot like these. Most of them went back to the old ones.

That low speed needle needs to be leaner then you think expecially after running a tapered needle for a couple years.

And ron, i did read your whole break in and tunning guide i just needed a little extra help cuz i am special

Finally got around to putting a good 5-6 tank on my Clocked B5 Pro at the local park with a dirt field.

I almost had the same problem as Dreaux at first, so I called neal up and he walked me through tuning it. My topend was too lean, and the low end was a bit fat. After he helped me get it close, i was able to get it to run really nice at about 230, crisp clean power with plenty of smoke. I have dropped to .4mm of shims on the head due to our high altitude here in colorado, and as the engine gets more fuel through it it is getting better and better. It has about 3/4 gallon on it now, and I think it's getting close to dropping its nuts.

Overall I am very pleased with the engine, seems smooth and is making good power. Pretty easy to tune once you get the hang of it.

I just got a 2011 B5 with the new head and carb from a guy on this forum. Can't wait to get it in after How many tanks would you say is the motor broke in Ron? Also what's a good running temp for the B5? I'm down here in GA, 90-95 degree weather down here now

thats good that maximo helped you out. Like I said i have been very pleased with my b5 so far. I run it in truggy and I have a nova plus 4 2010 team in the buggy, and I think the b5 runs better.

dreaux, as long as you got everything worked out ok and are ultimately happy with the performance of our products that is all that I care about

I hate how people get mad at an engine manufacturer because they can't tune right. I would be willing to say at least half, if not 3/4 of all engine problems are caused by the user

Great engine Ron!

I would say that after about a half gallon you can pretty much go to race tune and start running the motor hard. After about a gallon it should be right at the optimal point with everything seated properly for best performance. Regarding your temp questions normal race tune would be aroun 200 to 240 degrees I would think. In certain conditions you might need to run hotter (i.e. High humidity conditions) but just remember that your engine will tell you if you are rich or if you are too lean. Just pay attention to how it runs, how it comes back down to idle and how it accelerates out of corners. All of that will pretty much tell you if your engine is tuned properly and make sure to note if the performance of your engine changes over the course of the run!
