Looks good to me other than the spur and pinions. Kimrough spurs are MUCH better quality than the AE ones, I've had AE spurs so out of round I couldn't use them. If you find that the tranny is real noisy, look at those pinions as the first problem. Those are the cheap RRP ones and they'll help get your gearing figured out but then I would invest in some better quality ones. The RRP absolute hardened ones or their black anodized ones are better quality. Just an FYI.

pretty much decided I am going to grab myself a 4.1 factory kit tonight.

was thinking b44 and schumacher cougar, but the parts availability is better and its a shitload cheaper than the schumacher, and ive never run 4wd and figre a 2wd is best for getting back into the sport.

Anything I should know before I bite the bullet guys? Also, is the diff a ball diff or the grease packed 4 idler style diff? (not sure the correct term)

Also, if you could have any "custom" parts made for the 4.1 that you cant seem to find anywhere, what are they? I am a machinist and I am interested in starting a little side project for these cars. I have the ability to make _anything_, within medical and aerospace tolerances. Custom one off items are possible too for those with bottomless pockets.

AE spurs are garbage, cannot set a proper mesh and are noisy. I set it correct for one section and is loosey goosey on the opposite side. I have some Kimbrough on order. What do you think about the AE pinions? Any good? i want a nice quiet running drivetrain.

Sounds like you guys may have a bent motor plate or even the top shaft as well...

Check it out before you buy more spur gears just in case ....

The car is new and did a test on the motor plate by placing on a granite countertop and see if it rocked..it didn't. I spun the shaft in a drill at slow speed and is true. It could be the slipper plates as well...I'll check those tonight.

If the motor plate has been bent, the shaft gets bent as well from really bad landings ....

The combination will make it look like the spur gear is defected ..

Of course the spur gear takes all the blame , poor thing ....

I never make bad landings.... I'll take the spur out tonight and beat it within an inch of it's life to whip it back into shape.

That is what I thought. Maybe two different grades, retail and OEM

You asked in one post "on the arms" wich obviously no one should ever do.

The weight goes between the arm mount and transmission.

I wanted to get the high quality pinions from RRP, but amain only had the cheap ones in the sizes I got(29,30). Not really sure what gearing I'm going to end up using, but comeseethis said to start there..figured they couldn't be too far off but well see. Probably should have ordered a better spur, but ill be at amain when I finally get to drive my b4.1 so I can probably exchange. Thanks for the heads up.

I have been racing a SC10 for about 6 months now and am hooked so I just bought a FT B4.1 yesterday and put it together last night. Am wondering what speedo to put in. I am between a RS Pro which I have in my SC10 and love, and a LRP Sxx V2. What do you all think?

JMuck, never used AE pinions, never seen any other than the ones they put in their RTR stuff and those are crap. Don't know if they make a "quality" pinion.

Cherry, car was new and had other spurs on hand so it was the spur.

I've used AE spurs in the past and most are fine. I would think Kimbrough makes the AE spurs, some are listed that way on Tower. At the same time Tower gets $3.89 for an AE and $5.79 for a Kimbrough. While most of my AE spurs are useable all I buy now are Kimbrough and they seem to run a little truer than even the good AE ones I have. I'll pay the extra 2 bucks for Kimbrough and know I'll get a good spur but that's just me. Maybe the one in my kit was just a dud.

All of my Kimbrough spurs have holes in them, while none of MY AE spurs do even in the same tooth count. I have to think that they are not from the same mold..
