There's no need to keep the air out. Just to keep pressure from building up.

You can get the after market (I think Answer Racing makes them) alluminum retainers that have a little higher lip on them, and keeps the spring on pretty well, or you can drill a small hole in the plastic retainer next to the spring and use a small zip tie to attach the spring to the retainer, or I have also used that thin tie wire that is used for keeping the handlebar grips on dirt bikes from moving. Both work good.
As far as servo horns for steering I stick with the losi and have never broken any. Now the blue ones that come with the Hitecs, I have snapped those.

VP-Pro makes the shock retainers with higher sides and kick ass servo horns

What direction are the holes in the spring retainer facing?

There is a way that the retainers have to be mounted. The hole has to face away from the chassis. With that method I have never had a retainer pop.

If that's not working, answer rc makes some really nice alum ones with a tall lip.

Yeah, I just couldn't find the correct word to describe it.

If you are meaning the big slot on the retainer, I all ways face the open end facing twards the diff. Always thaught that if I did it that way it wouldn't hold any dirt. Never had a spring pop off when using the stock plastic ones. Still ended up buying the Answers cups for added security.

Default 8T 2 just ordered

Hi Everyone,

Name's Thomas from Montreal Canada, brand new on this forum, but have been pretty active on the Traxxas (Revo/Jato) forum.

Just ordered a T 2.0 RTR (I needed a good Rx and didn't have a start box so...).

If you could give me some mandatory hop-ups on the get go that would be really great. I am reading a lot but if you can suggest tweaks/parts/vendors that would be really amazing.
I'll still have two month to play with it before doing the break in, so...

I'll order a new mill next month (.21 os or werks)

What would you recommend for new Servos?
I was thinking over 300ounces for steering, but no clue for throttle. My LHS has futaba, and Hitec.

I would like to upgrade a couple elements, but can't seem to find good selling points (I am in Canada) so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Alum Shock caps and bottoms (size? vendors?)
Or all in one shocks upgrades?
Alum shock towers (front/rear)
Screw set
4s battery for starter box

Finally, if you could point me to "must read" posts/threads, that would be more than appreciated.
I am going to race for the first time this season, never had a truggy (was more on the MT side) and while I have learned a lot, I am still in great needs of learning.
Any help would be more than appreciated

Thanks in advance!

The slots should face outwards.

Looking for a new servo horn for steering, I broke one in two this past weekend. I like the Hudy, but the VP Pro looks nice also. I'm anal so I will also have the same for throttle. Just looking for suggestions, I do not like the ones with a set screw.

I will try the opening facing out and see, never knew it mattered. If that doesn't work I will try the zip tie trick.

I converted my 8 from last season to electric so I get to order a fresh one for nitro this year. Yeah-me. So anyone whose bought a kit recently are things still ok? Nothing to watch out for? The 2.0 I bought two years ago was perfect the whole time I've had it. I hate to curse myself with a new one, LOL, but I wanted an electric car for winter, and the 8ights are just awesome cars for me.
