John, it's because the ESC's are where the difference is nowadays. So it's vital that we control them. We didn't allow the ZTW system to be used (same HW motor but different ESC) because there was a difference of around 100rpm to the Hobbywing. That's why mini racing now is so good, no-one has any advantage.
Wouldnt want it any other way really, curiosity more than anything made me ask why, but as they say "If it aint broken don't fix it!!"
