I shall make sure that we discuss start times at the meeting. Perhaps we should take a poll at the drivers meeting and base our decision on that since only a few of us seem to be using the internet for communications.
Ten years ago or so when we had the turn outs that we are enjoying now, what was the start time? Five? Just trying to get some history. The club has been around a long time and most of the things we do are just not because "thats the way we always have done it". They are usually for a good reason and these decisions have evolved to be the best fit.
As always, we are a club for the members enjoyment. We will do our best to make the majority happy and what is good for the club.

Maybe a finish time should be on the ballet,and then plan the days events accordingly. No one likes to hose the guy that has to work on saturday but your club normally makes good decisions for the masses.

At present I am only aware of two people that work Saturdays past noon that regularly attend our races. I hope that if more do, they come forward and be counted. Everyones opinion counts but they must be heard to be consisdered.
Reminder that this is the last week we are accepting nominations for the board of directors and club officers. Please volunteer to help your club. The nomination sheet is on the boards by the heat sheets. You may only nominate yourself on the sheet. Voting will begin the following week for two weeks. You must hold a membership to be considered for a position and to vote.

Spike spends 1-3 or more minutes between almost every round waiting for us to get out to marshal, or, waiting for the next round to check in.
Now, I didn't complete a degree in numerical theory, but simple math I can do. Let's figure three qualifiers and a main, assuming 10 heats as is reasonable;
((3x10)=30) + 10 (mains)=40 heats (give or take)
Assuming 1-3 minutes of saved time could result anywhere from 40 minutes (1 minute wait) to 2 hours (3 minute wait)
Let's take the average and call it 2 minutes = 80 minutes saved = 1 hour 20 minutes earlier we bug out. That's free time...
Might be worth trying that before rocking everyone's schedule. One of my favorites;
Occam's Razor
"When you have two competing theories which make exactly the same predictions, the one that is simpler is the better."

To counter Occam's Razor with a quote from one of the most accomplished race directors in the country when asked about more regimented marshalling practices:
"I can't get these guys not to piss on the wall in my bathroom".

2 yanks + 1 grunt = 1 perch
Or,
5 PM start + 2 min between rounds + no marshall = -1 lap x everybody = Shorter night

We do have a "marshall timer" installed in our track software. At present it is set for three minutes from the saving of the last race before the tone goes off. Last week I asked Spike to cut that 30 seconds and it seemed to work most times. The few races that I announced, I had them started with a minute left on the clock.
I agree we all could hustle a little bit to get on the track ready to go and in our marshalling spots. The time saved does add up. All it takes is one person to be slow or forget something and everyone waits. You bring the hot tar Stan and I will bring the feathers. Just kidding of course.
I will mention promptness during the drivers meeting.

from an outside standpoint looking in, during our rumble races, scotty has a table brought out to end of the drivers stand. everyone sets there cars there after the end of the race and noone ever goes more than 5ft from the track. I think the marshal go's back to plug their cars in and then starts talking about how the race went is when they get out late. only person that should leave the area would be someone running in the next race. just my $.02
