Default OS VSpec Removing Piston

Well I recently broke the con rod on my VSpec , lucky for me everything else looks to be undamaged. I can see in the manual that there are E clips on the piston rod in the piston. How do I go about removing these so I can get the piston removed from the engine? Also does it take a special tool to pull the sleeve? Thanks!

No need.....you remove the sleeve, then everything else. Normally you'd stick a zip tie through the exhaust port and roll the piston up to start the sleeve out of the case...with a broken rod you're left to improvise...

I tried the zip tie method and pushing on the broken con rod but I cant get enough pop on it due to being broke. I can wedge a flat head through the backplate but Im afraid ill gash where Im prying on it.

Sometimes when a rod lets go it hits the bottom of the sleeve bending it slightly. That might be why it wont come out of the block

+1 If the rod broke, chances are the piston and sleeve are thrashed too. And possibly the case, the crank, etc... depends on what hit what and how hard.

you need to heat the bad boy up to get the sleeve out. No flathead or you will break the piston. There is a chance that the piston and sleeve are messed up but not a great chance.

X2 Try about 150-165* to start. Much above 200* and the bearings will want to fall out.

I've had some that just holding the block in your hands for 5 min opened up them enough to slide the sleeve right out. Some take some heat.

Fire up the oven, make sure the old lady's gone and chuck it in @150. Let it sit for 15 min and pull it out(use a potholder..it'll be 150* LOL ) Try the sleeve by hand, it should want to slide out. If it won't, or isn't getting loose, bump heat to 200* and try again.

Like I said, above 200* the bearings will fall right out, so try and keep temps below that.

thanks for all the replied guys! Im going to go try the oven trick right now. The way it broke was on the starting box. Got it started and burped the throttle a bit to clear it out and pop. I'll post if I have luck getting it out.

If the bearings DO come out, just pop them back in before it cools, or re-heat block and slide them in before rebuilding.

Getting them out and the crank out might be a good idea to see if it sucked in any shmeg past the rear bearing
