Ok I need some help. I have an origional +4 from protwister and really like it so far. Here is the problems, first i dont have a clue what pipe is the best for it, i run a 2013 now. 2nd, what are normal temps for this motor, i have heard everything from 210-270? and lastely, probably one for Houston, it has a standard plug in it now and i just recieved a turbo button. what will swaping them out do to my current tune which is already on the rich side?? For example, will i need to lean it more or will it need to be richened up for the turbo plug?? Thanks for the help.

Hi Monty,
I need your help. I am confused on the correct HSN setting for my Plus-21C. If you go to the Novarossi web site and watch the video clip of Adam Drake on tuning he states that a good starting point for a “race tune” for the HSN on the Plus 21 is “flush to a 1/4 to ½ turn in. If you use the “factory setting “ of 3.5 turns out as a base line, it is a long way from flush! Is a “race tune” that far from the “factory setting” of 3.5? Every time I try to lean out the HSN that much, the temps shoot up. I have never gotten close to a HSN of flush. Granted, the engine is still fairly new. Maybe close to 2 gallons at the most. There is still a slight mechanical pinch. I use Byron’s 25%, O’Donnell T98 plug, and a 6.5 card insert. You thoughts would be appreciated! Maybe I am just over analyzing things!

In case he doesn't get back to you soon enough. The 3 turn ect is from bottomed out gently. Flush is in reference to face of the needle body. Get familiar with the way they look when you get tuned anyway "hard to remember an hour here hour there that way you don't get too far out of wack" . I did my LSN with the carb full open that #s in same post or right there after. Monty's #s get you real close. I couldn't get our new plus 21c motors tuned until I used OD 97T plugs. Wasted alot of time ,I could of been playing .They are priced great right now.

Hi
My plus4 team is a pain in the ass, it flames out, hard to tune, rich, lean, etc..
It sounds like an air leak, I have sealed it and changed the carburetor from my toro nero but it is just as bad.
I have 2 Toro Neros Team and they are easy to tune and i love them.
1 race has my team Plus4 gone perfectly, the front bearing are not leaking and i have tested several glowplugs. The comp. is great too. Any ideas whats wrong?

I'm far from being an expert engine tuner, but I've come to the conclusion that Nova's are finicky motors. I have ran other engines and always seem to gravitate back to them anyways. Once you have it in the sweet spot it will put a smile on your face. Make sure there are no leaks in your fuel and exhaust system, as that will ruin your day. I'm thinking with my +4 of going to a 053 or 9853 pipe. I'm think that the 9901 makes the motor ever more sensitive on the tune, plus i like an aggressive bottom end. I was actually going to ask Monty about this, maybe he'll pipe up

Hi.

How many gallons of fuel has it run?

How much nitro do you use? 0,7 mm head shims for 25% nitro and 0,8 mm (stock) shims for 30% nitro.

Are you leaning your HSN enough? Depending on which venturi you use, you can lean the HSN more than one turn (from the spot where is goes from 4 stroke to 2 stroke) before she runs too lean. You can hear she starts to sing on the straight, when you got the HSN right. If its too lean the engine will keep a high idle and say "DING DING DING", at the end of the straight, when you releases the throttle.

After that set the LSN to a steady idle. If the idle speed it too high it sounds like she is too lean.

I have run about 2 gallons with it, but it has been like this since new.
I run 25% nitro, i have not checked the shims, have never heard about that.
I use 6.5mm venturi.
The problem is that the engine not hold the tune, 5 lap its fine next to rich then lean, fat, perfekt...
I have 2 toro neros and i have tuned them earlier exactly the way you say and they runs perfekt, only needs a fine tune some times.
