Iwas going to say the other thing you could try that might work is closing your air gap some. The way I have mine set right now you can hardly see any gap at all with the restrictor in. This will lower your idle so your forced to lean out the bottom some. One of the guys at our track is running one with a JP 4 and he as no problems at all. He is actually quicker than I am in a few spots on the track.

I know I always get hung up on small details.. but is this barely visible air gap seen when looking straight down the carb or at an angle? I know that the gap can be small enough to not be visible if you look straight down in there. Just curious to see how other people do it.

I've finally gotten my engine past break in and with a race tune, 053 pipe, and a smooth "electric throttle finger" I was getting 11 minutes of run time(flamed out at 11 mins and 34 seconds).
my local outdoor is somewhat small from 8th scale so top speeds are slow..

I have about 1.5 gallons on my B5 2013 and this engine is really amazing. It has so much snap off the bottom I went up 1 tooth on the clutch bell and it still has great punch off the bottom. I also just switched over to werks fuel and it is equally if not more impressive than this engine. I had a little bit of trouble with high low idle but since switching to werks fuel I set my idle gap and set the needles back to flush and it was very easy to tune. This engine runs really good even when its set up a little rich, I am getting exactly 10 min on a tank running just over 200 degres.

Hobbs263, thanks for posting your feedback on the engine. Glad that you are liking it! Your running our fuel so you may want to pull out on of the thin head shims, this will drop the deck height a bit and result in a more complete combustion of the mixture. This will pick up a little bit more run time and also increase the torque. If your running our Werks 30% this is a 100% safe optimization to make that we have tested extensively and results in a noticeable improvement in performance. (if you are using other fuels please make sure that you test for signs of detonation if doing this!!!!)

Regards,

Ron

Well after reading all the positive comments on the B5 I just ordered one and a 2013 tuned pipe set. This will be my first Werks motor ever as I am a die hard OS fan. The power plant will be going in a truggy, still not sure which one but more than likely an mbx6t. I will post my results.

Ron or anybody...
I read on page 55 that on hot bodies cars you have to do something to the flywheel. If I purchase a b5, what else do I need? Shims or anything?

What about fuel, do you reccomend 20 or 30%

Ran the B5 at a club race in Jacksonville today. Very few competing races this weekend so we had guys from several hours around. Last time I ran here in February there were two B5's. Today we had 10-12 ... fully 1/3 of the nitro guys had one and most were paired with the 2013. I only noticed one guy that had trouble and was blaming the motor. It looked new and my personal opinion was that he had it tuned incorrectly.

Nice to see the cat out of the bag!
