Ok, fine. What mileage are you guys getting out of these engines, on the average?? Also, how many gallons do these engines last?? How would you rate it in performance against the alphas or the b5's, or the odss .21's???

I know that i am asking to pit this engine against others in the Jl's thread, so i hope for an unbiased answer.

I just love the price, the way it looks, and you guys seem to be having great success with it.

depending on the track you can get 7:30 up.... the track i run on i can get 8:30 and i have to pit... so i pit at 7:30 unless its a 25min main... then i stretch it 8:30... against said plus 4... runtimes are not as good but it is arguably faster and more powerful... not sure about B5 never ran it.. although i have 1

the clockworks motor is very easy, neal matched the piston to the sleeve... called lapping, it will not wear out your rod at all, and 3 easy tanks and your ready to go..by tank 5 i was racing

Heat cycled 5 tanks. Heat gun to start and wrap the head to get it to temp. Idle to 230 for 5min and shut it off...let it cool back to room temp and start over....after 5 tanks ran it fat and slow on the street a couple of tanks and then started to lean it slowly another 2 tanks.
Got to Atl.(PNB) and put a race tune to it and stood there with my mouth haning open drooling over the power I had in my hands! It now has a lil' over 2 gallons on it and it runs great.
Got a points race this weekend and then the Alabama Manufacturers race at Cullman the 1st of June...the motor will be fine! BONE STOCK.

If you think stock is fast, you should see the modded one...! The stock engine is actually quite powerful tho... it has high timing and large ports and a very aggressive design in general.....However the modified engine is flat out ballistic, a huge gain in power and RPM over stock...The modded engine is smooth, yet ballistic at the same time.....I do lose a little runtime, but the gains in performance are well worth it IMHO....

Neal, don't make me go Easyrider on you!!LOL! You will be getting some of my money soon enough. I really like this motor. With all the help from you,Reggie and Aaron, I'm feeling pretty comfortable with the JL.
I never have been a tuning wizard on these things and really after 4 seasons back to racing after 10 off this is my traing motor.
Sonny Holder(retired from Mercury Outboard Racing) tuned my motors for the 1st season. Age and knee replacements sidelined him....
So I've had alo of good racers help me since...I think it was time for me to step up to learn this part of the set up now.
Again, I really appreciate all that you guys have done for me as far as answering my stupid questions.

Dave.

Easyrider ! LOL. ..

My whole point is this...The OFNA JL is an excelent engine, it brings to the table some very advanced design as well as exceptional build quality at a very affordable price....Because of these attributes it makes for an engine I really like to modify....IMO there is not a stock offroad .21 that can make the power and RPM of my modified JL at any price.....Stock the JL is as kickass as any other .21 out there, but modified it is an absolute demon ! it is what it is...I sell the engine both stock and modified, and in both cases it offers amazing bang for the buck...All the same reasons you guys are liking it soo much stock, are the same reasons i like it modified...it offers top level performance at a budget price....... Shop around and see if you can find anything at under $200.00 that can match the stock JL, and same thing for my modified at $250.00, The mod JL will absolutely smoke the ass off anything anywhere near its price range..To find an engine that will pull on the mod JL your going to spend big bucks on a modified of some sort to do it as I don't see anything stock being able to do it, no way .... I have had modified engines faster then my mod JL, but your paying nearly double the money to get them...for example my modified C6 is ballistic, but its cost is close to $500.00 out the door...Never before I have I been able to deliver this kind of bang at anywhere near this price range....

.either way the JL is a fantastic little engine both modified and stock and IMO the best value in the offroad engine market today.........

..now that right there is some funny chit

I don't understand what his problem was..lol ?? Like Neal said, the JL is great stock ( we all understand that ), but I like a little extra kick when I need it, and the modded engine certainly delivers.

Aren't Nova, RB, and O.S. engines great engines out of the box? Yet, people get them modded all the time because they like modded engines..and their sponsored drivers aren't jumping on the guys modding buying them like easyrider was.

Also, you can't group engine modders together..just because one engine modifier didn't yield favourable results, it doesn't mean that none of them can.

A good engine is a good engine, and the JL is that, stock or Clocked.
