The New Werks B5 .21 Racing Engine

i have the first generation b5. just under 2 gallons. i love the motor. has been problem free until yesterday. motor just flames out, sometimes on the lowend of running, and sometimes under full throttle. i know my tune is close. plenty of smoke and tempts are 180-200. when it does flame out it seems the motor is way rich on the bottom. i have installed new glow plug ( p4 ). still the same. i have switched fuels, i shortened the fuel line to the carb to be a more of a straight shot and lenghtened the exhaust pressure line a little. that seemed to fix the problem. the next day, same flame out problem. the only thing that seems a little off is the low speed needle turns without any resistance at all.. lastly i switched pipes, i was running a new serio 2013, i do not have the exact gasket for the header and muffler joint but what i am using seems to be sealing fine. ther is a tiny bit of residue under the joint on the chassis. almost nothing at all. thinking maybe it was the pipe, i switched to a os 2050 and it has quit flaming out, but only for a 1/4 of a tank so far.....
are there any issues with the original carb or possibly the low speed needle turning without any resistance? is there anything that can be used to swell th o ring on the low speed needle? i have a old v-spec carb, i am gonna check to see if the o ring for the low speed needles are the same size. any thoughts or ideas woluld be appreciated.

Funny how everyone automatically assumes that any time they have a problem they must have a bad carb isn't it lol ;-P I'd replace the exhaust gasket on the 2013, if you have problems locating them you can get them from A-Main. The 2013 is going to offer better performance than the 2050. Once you do this and re-install the pipe if you start running into the flame out issues then it is probably going to be your tune that is the cause. Switching from one pipe to another is going to drastically alter the back pressure and hence the tune, so as an example it is possible that you were too lean (or rich) with the 2013 which is why you were flaming out and when you switched to the 2050 the change in back pressure ended up putting you in an acceptable range on tune so the engine now runs properly. Either way though I'm happy to hear that you got the issue resolved!

Hey Ron.
The customer service you have is great. I have read some of the post and all ive read is good things about the B5 engine. I have my B5 on its way. I cant wait to start doing the break-in. I saw your post on how you break into your engines but it would be great and easier if you make a nice video doing it yourself. There's alot of engines out here and i havent seen a nice video from a company showing how they do the break in process. Keep up the good work.

i still love my b5 and by no means was complaining about it, just trying to troubleshoot flameout issue. the only problem with the gasket is my pipe is a serio version and looks to have a female o ring groove on the header and silencer. i ordered the serio version o rings from a main and they are not thick enough. i have tried the o rings from the grp fast link system as well. they are about the same. i bought the pipe off this site new in the box. i am starting to think maybe someone has matched the wrong header to this silencer? maybe the right header would let a std. exhaust gasket work??
i love the 2013 pipe and the motor definately runs better with it on there than anything else... i will pick up a werks 2013 after i close on new house. right now, the boss has put a freeze on racing and spending.

hey guys, I just got my hands on a new B5 I'm looking forward to breaking in this new engine since I haven't raced nitro in about 9 years I'm super stoked! Anyways after talking with kingsbury he recommended a OD #97T plug. The problem is my LHS doesn't have this plug in stock I had them order it, but in the meantime what is a good dynamite plug to get me by for the weekend?
also how much fuel does this engine need to run through during break in a couple quarts? a gallon?

Get a gallon of 30% and that should be adequate for break in and getting a race tune on her.

When the weather gets hotter, you would run a cooler plug if anything, not hotter. Having said that, you probably won't need to do a thing other than mind your temps and potentially richen the motor up... but when it gets hotter and the air gets thinner, it will naturally be a little rich, so it will probably be a wash. The b5 with the 97t already takes forever to warm up and always runs cool for me when it's in the 70s outside, I'd imagine the 97t is perfect for warmer temps.
