who you kidding? Do you have any idea how awesome it is to not have to break in an engine!!!!???? I could care less if its modded or not, but give me hand lapping every time brohemian Rapsody
If i was Mark Popadockolis and I got free engines and someone to break them in for me, I would be running stock speeds also

Some engines are worse than others, the JL breaks in quite nice as is

I got my JL yesterday, sealed carb and backplate and got it mounted, I have ran 2 tanks thru it so far, and everything is great, engine idles like a purring kitten. I am breaking it in with Byrons 20/12, and a Picco p6tc plug
My question is when do I start pulling head shims out and how many, I will be switching to Byrons 25/11 after break in.

I dismantled my engine and took some pictures. I've put 2 hard gallons through it, most of it on pavement, and about a litre on the track now that it's finally open.
I was very surprised when I opened it up. I've never had an engine look this good at two gallons. It has absolutely no slop at TDC, no matter what I did. I measured my con-rod and crank-pin, and there's zero wear. The grooves in the piston look just as deep as day one. Very impressive for a 'bargain' mill that is slaying down more expensive engines...it's certainly not the Taiwan we're used to seeing.
When you consider the hard life this engines has had, it makes it even more impressive. When first getting it, I idled half a tank through it before hammering on it, and putting it to race tune. I'd say it's lived 65-75% of it's life at WOT while I was testing out different pipes. Also consider that because of the mod, it running at a higher level than it was designed to, so for it to be in great shape, with no slop, is amazing.
This engine makes it hard to justify buying another high-dollar engine again, especially if it ends up having a fairly long life. Time will tell.

Wow that looks fantastic Nid ! the fitted piston sure takes the wear and tear out of the engine..... I mean your engine was hitting over 40 000 RPM at tank 1, and has been run wide open nearly its entire life and the engine looks like brand new after 2 gallons ! dam wicked engine and by far the best build quality I have ever seen from a Taiwanese engine.......I am very happy to see how clean that engine looks, especially after you beat on it so badly ! cheers Neal !
