Timing hardware is pretty much universally MyLaps (was called AMB until recently), www.mylaps.com.

Most large UK meetings seem to use BBK timing software. www.bbksoftware.com. BBK are also UK distributor for MyLaps. Software seems to vary quite a bit throughout the world.

Regarding cars, +1 with what wingracer has said. Just about all 12th scale cars are on a similar level. If you have people running a particular make of car near you, get that one. That way you will get more help when you need it.

Like Trev is saying, most 1/12 cars are about the same. The technology on these cars has not changed much in years. Other than little tweaks here and there to make them better or easier to work on, they're about the same. At our track, there are several different types of cars running and they are all just as competitive. If you pick either of those two cars, you'll be fine. I live in the states so, I have no idea if the web-sites here in the states are what you want to use. If you want to use sites from the states; for the Xray, I would use Nexusracing.net or stormerhobbies.com. If you want to use the Associated; Stormerhobbies.com or Amainhobbies.com are good sites. You may be better off using some European sites though.

I don't know anything about timing systems. Someone else would have to help you out there. You may want to check out the electronics area of the forum for that.

i posted earlier about my interest in starting 1/12 racing here in Kuwait, i got a phone call today that a collage Gym is available for our use during summer
since we'll using the gym temporarly, is it possible to lay the carpet down without glueing it to the floor?? is there something i should use between the carpet and the wooden floor?? any tips and advices are highly appreciated.

Our club uses a sports hall every Saturday night, where we have to lay the carpet down and take it back up at the end of the night. No problem doing this without glueing or using anything else underneath as long as the floor is flat. We roll the carpet out, stretch and tape the ends one roll at a time, then match the next roll up to this and do the same. When all the rolls are out the joins are taped along their length. No problem with the carpet at all during a night doing this.

i saw few 1/12 races where they have a nice dark path like asphalt tracks!! how do you get this?? do they spray anything like on asphalt or is it because of the amount of run time + traction compound + foam tires on it??

Good old Duct tape.

The groove shows up after enough time is run on it. Most of the time, you won't see it for a club race night if you pick up the carpet each time. (You may see a little by the end of the night I guess.)

Some tracks spray TC down beforehand, but it's not necessary. Also the color depends on the compound used. Tracks that are primarily Jack get blacker, but it's not any better necessarily. Just looks good for the camera!

talking about the compounds, i've been reading alot and its always the name Jack thats mostly appears. is it the best compound out there?? i know trinity has the sticky fingers too, how do you compare them to eachother??

last question about 1/12, when you use a life/lipo RX pack, how is the wiring done?? speedo directly to Motor without passing through the RX?? or shall i get the new LRP speedo where you dont need a RX pack or a booster??

Jack is used alot because its odorless, but good ol paragon is a better traction additive. But what ever you guys use try to only use one brand. Using different brands of traction additives has been reported to lead to inconsistant traction over time.
