Fuel mixing...help with calculations
#1
Anyone have links to info on blending fuel. Looking for a excel type program
Realizing how much I have forgotten since high school chemistry and feeling very old at the same time..ha!
Thanks

- 25% nitro
- 10% oil
- 65% methanol
For 16%:
- 16% nitro
- 10% oil
- 74% methanol
mixing per liter is wise to do with a lab-glass
- 100mL oil (or a mixture of several oils)
- 250mL nitro, mix it with the oil up to 350mL (25%)
- fill it up to 1 liter with methanol.
- use a stick to mix it
- drop it in a can through a coffee filter.

Getting straight nitro is getting difficult in states. They are selling it as 50/50 mix with methanol other wise you need a special license.
So I am trying to determine a basic equation for diluting the 50% solution to a 16% solution to specific quantity (in this case 900ml).
I was able to determine that I need to mix 16 parts of 50/50 solution with 34 parts of methanol...but I cant figure out the equation to mix to a specific ml amount ( be it 1 liter,2.5 liters etc)
Secondly what is your opinion of synthetic oil vs pure caster oil?

Well, if you can only find 50% nitro / 50% methanol... according to my simple math you would need:
58% of 100% Methanol
32% of 50% Methanol / 50% Nitro Mix
10% of Castor/Synthetic Oil
Would get you 16% nitro, 74% methanol and 10% oil.
0.32 * 0.5 nitro = 16% Of nitro that you want in your mixture
0.10 = Oil you want in the fuel
1 - 0.32 - 0.10 = Rest of what you need to add in methanol.
How do you get these percentages to actual values? Multiply the numbers by how much mixture you want, example:
Say you want to mix fuel for a gallon:
0.1 * 1 gallon = 0.1 gallon of Oil = 0.38L
0.32 * 1 gallon = 0.32 gallons of 50/50 mix = 1.21L
0.58 * 1 gallon = 0.58 gallons of pure methanol = 2.20L
Someone double check this please.
