Has anyone tried the ball diff for racing in the slash, if so how did it do?

Questions?? Slash / Novak 17.5 Help

Hello Slash Setup Racers... I need some help as I can't quite figure this out. I have a slash and run on carpet. I put a Novak Havoc Sport ESC and 17.5 Novak motor in with a gearing of low 70's spur and 30 pinoin. The truck seems fast as I won the A-Main this past Friday, but it doesn't deliver the pop that I would like. I am running the 17.5 advanced 3/4's of the way to see if that would help but it didn't seem to improve much. I'm curious to know what others are running in terms of gearing with a 17.5? Does it make sense to run my Hovac ESC with a stock motor? Any advantages?

Thanks in advance as I'm totally stumped here.

ur not gunna get alot of "pop" of the line with that high of gear ratio. when I ran a slash on carpet, I was running 86/20 with a 13.5 and doing quite well with temps in the 120* range. depends on ur track size if the benifit of all that speed will help. mine was a small, tight track

Hi Offtraxx,

The track is 100 x 36 so I guess that falls in the medium to small range. I'll give a few more setups a try, thanks for your help.

They look the same to me. I had one in an overpowered stampede a while back and I loved it but I didnt race with it.

I would like to try a sidewinder, as I have one but our track limits the speed control to basically a sport model like an eraser or a havok.

I'll have to look into the MIP diff, it looks like it might work....

hey guys i have a ? about gearing i run on a carpet road course its some what small can run about a 6-7 sec oval lap on it with a stock slash if that gives anyone an idea lastnight we ran the road course on there i ran a 18/86 gear setup on my slash it helped going threw the s's but when i come out of the s's onto the stretch(come out of corner 3& 4 onto the back stretch into 2 & 1) and the other guys were faster then me on that part but i could get them in the s's so it tells me that i don't have enough top end speed i have real good acceleration though so what can i put in for gearing to make up the top end but have enough acceleration as well thanks

Well whatever you do buddy, don't buy the traxxas one, the problem is the plastic gear, it would be awesome if it was an aluminum gear but the truck is too heavy for plastic. I am waiting to hear from other people here but I am leaning against the fast lane machine and the reason is because is metal gears so no worries about stripping them, the only problem with that is that is not a ball diff, you change the settings with different oil wt as opposed to the ball diff that you can adjust by turning the diff for more or less traction

We ran 3.85:1 on my sons Slash. I put the ratio because we run 32P gears, not the 48P. Thats 54/14 with 32P.
