The New Werks B5 .21 Racing Engine
#842
Guys you will not be dissapointed with the B5 Got third in kyosho classic today in buggy and 4th in truggy running B5's in both and after a 20 minute buggy A main and a 30 minute truggy A main They temped at 220 deg and idled perfect never flamed out or gave any trouble for the 2 day event. ran 2013 pipes in both had gobs of bottom and I never got pulled on the 130 ft straight. ( approx) Against novas, sirios, ninjas and os speeds There was a lot of people amazed at the the race how fast these engines are and how cool they run. My pit man told me a couple other teams pit guys could not believe how the B5 was screaming! Then they heard my pit guy say 220 deg (after 20 minutes) they used there tempgun after the 30 minute main was over and it was 221 deg...Haha gotta love it! They said it was so fast they thought for sure it was runnin at like 270 deg. I also use Werks fuel so I am sure that helps too.

After reviewing the Reedy thread, I've decided the B5 is a better pick for me, so back goes the Reedy for the Werks. I have the 2035 pipe (2013 is out of stock), which I'm hoping will be a good low/mid match for the B5 and my mid sized home track. Any update on the ETA for the new, beefed up Werks 2013?

how did you know i was running a losi lol. two of my friends are also running losi buggies and had the same carb prob this weekend. the angles of the linkages are straight it seem to be binding more like the top of the slide on the carb body than trying to rotate it. kind of like its pulling the slide down and binding but everything seems straight. it just dosent feel smooth so ill be sure to try what you said to try and fix it . thanks for the info Ron

You need to make sure the linkage is level with the ball on the carb. If the ball is higher or lower than the linkage at the servo horn. It will wear and start to bind. It needs to pull perfectly straight. Some vehicle designs you will need to raise or lower the linkage off the horn, it also depends on the angle of the ball on the carb. I saw this happen to a guy at the track sunday who was running a picco engine. He had his linkage higher than the carb ball and it was forcing the slide up into the body everytime he pulled the throttle. Then it eventually just stuck. I gave the guy a old P7R carb I had in my box. and set it up for him. I think this gets overlooked a lot.

so the B5 has been out for a little while now. Is there any agreement on what pipe works best on this motor? I am about to pick one up and I would like to know if i need to order a pipe too. I have a 2013 but most of the engines I have used it on have way to much unusable bottom. I am looking for smoothness and runtimes but it still must have enough bottom to make the big jumps and short run up jumps.

The 2057 is the way to go... It smoothes out the powerband and still has awesome bottom end...run time is great also. Only downfall is that its fragile. If I could find someone to hardcoat this pipe it would be a 10/10 for the B5.

2057 smooths out the bottom , or 2056 smooths it out even more, both have xlnt top......all have great top but from most bottom to least it goes 2013, 2057 ,2056 and they are all xlnt pipes for the B5 it is just a preference on how you like it to feel. 2056 and 2057 have a slight mileage increase over the 2013 but not a ton .
