That's a good idea with the cooking timer. This is along the lines of what I have told my friend to do. I suggested to run for 15 minutes first time out. He has a Traxxas Stampede XL-5 and a 5200 SMC lipo and the Onyx charger. So I suggested to check the mAh that was put back into the battery as a reference.

I've told him all about how to stop running the truck once it starts slowing down. Walk over to pick up the truck, DO NOT try to "limp" the truck back cause it will hurt the battery.

Each time after driving for 15-20 minutes to pay attention to how many mAh is put back into the battery and the voltage as well. I've suggested for him to check the voltage each time the battery is put on the charger so you know how far the battery was drawn down. Then reference the mAh after the charge is complete. And I let him know he would learn after a day of what's needed and how long to run it.

He stil asks about having a voltage cut-off just to cover his investment. So I suggested the Novak 2S cut-off but a couple guys at the track mention the Novak doesnt' work with some speedos. Anyone have more info on that? I don't see why it wouldn't work with the XL-5 speedo.

From Novaks website

#5470 The Novak Smart-Stop 2S Li-Po Cut-Off Module (Novak #5470) is not compatible with the blue-cased Traxxas XL-5 ESC (Traxxas #3018X) that is included with the Traxxas Slash 1/10 2WD Short Course Racing Truck (Traxxas #5805). This module may or may not be compatible with the original, gold-cased Traxxas XL-5 ESC (Traxxas #3018). Novak is researching this issue to determine if an update can be made to the module or if a separate module can be offered for this application.
