Hey guys, a buddy of mine is getting into RC for the first time. He is wanting to go a safe route and use a LVC for him and his 4-year old son. He has a truck, lipo, and charger all brand new. Since he will be using the Stampede in training mode for his son, I'm not sure how he'll be able to tell when the battery voltage is dropping off. He is brand new to RC so everything will be different for him. Anyway, this common sense cut-off is the only thing I've found so far so I'm asking for some other LVC's that are out there.

IIRC the Stampede uses same esc as the Slash and the Novak Smart Stop lvcs do not work with the stock esc. I haven't seen anyone report the CellPro lvc works one way or the other. Most that are running lipo have either upgraded to BL or are racing where the run time is such tha the lipo isn't overdischarged.

The safest thing to do would be for him to get a NiMH pac for his 4 yr old to run. Thats the only batt thats going to be safe in this situation.

If it si a vxl dont worry about lvc it is built into the esc you just have to make sure it is on the lipo setting and novak does make a lvc that works with the xl5 no5 jut have to do some looking for it.

MaxAmps sells a low voltage alarm I put on my Slash. Works like a charm.

A 4 yr old needs a cutoff not an alarm....he'll overdischarge a lipo everytime otherwise.

That assumes the gentleman will allow his 4 year old son to operate the vehicle without any supervision.
I assume he will have supervision.

The only way I've seen it happen was with Dad supervising.

the dad is very cautious with his children. The boy will be supervised. However this is the very first RC car for dad and son. Dad and I converse about everyday about what to do and what NOT to do. But experience plays a larger role than me telling him till I'm blue in the face.

I bought time ago a Novak Smart Stop I haven't use yet. My question is, if the ESC ( I would use a Keyence Straight ESC and on of those cheap Tamiya TEU esc's) says the max voltage is 7,2 and Lipos have 7,4, will the receiver or the ESC's be in danger?Is it safe?

You're jacking this guys thread but you won't have a problem with a 7.4 lipo. The 7.2v on a nimh and the 7.4v on a 2S lipo are nominal voltages, fully charged a nimh pack starts with more voltage than a 2S lipo, around 9v+ with a nimh and 8.4v with a full lipo. Any ESC/receiver that can run a 6-cell nimh pack can run a 2S lipo with no problems.

Keep it simple.
You can have problems using add on LVC's.........You don't really need one.

Get a cooking timer and set it for say 6min.
Re-charge your battery and see how many mah it takes after 6min.

If you have (say) a 4000mah lipo and you only take out from 2000 up to 2500mah your lipo will last a long time.

Set the cooking timer to what ever time it takes to put back 2000/2500mah in your (say) 4000 lipo, could be as much as 15/20min. of run time or even more.

Charge time doesn't equate to run time, if I understand this right.
