You can either use the ride-height shims or the #31286 FT Ballstud Washer, aluminum. These are a bit smaller in diameter, also FT blue and in two thicknesses...

I also use these shims to prevent bumpsteer by raising the ball-studs on the steering arms...

I like the stock ride hight shims. Very hard to see when installed.

What effect does shiming the arms out at the mounts have on the car? Thats not something I have experimented with in the past.

It feels to me like it calms the front end down. Something similar to adding shims to the axle. I am using some gold colored shims from an x ray sedan I had in my pit box.

Silver ball studs (they have longer necks than the black studs) also work perfect to remove the bump steer.

So true! But when I was placing that post I was referring to my Pro10 and there I have a lot of difference in diameter in the front tires between training and racing. I start with new tires for training and when they are near the right size I put them aside for races, saves some bucks & unnesserary truing IMO.

So on my Pro10 I use these shims because I can change them if the ride height changes and thus the alignment of the upper arms and turnbuckles. With 12th scale there is less difference in front tire diameter and therefore you can change the ball studs if you like... I still prefer using shims because I don't use the AE ball studs but Titanium versions from Square...

By the way, I know this is the 12R5 forum but does anyone know whether the shimming-the-front-arms thing work well with the 10R5 too? Just curious 'cause the 10R5 is my "weapon" of choice for WGT!

The 10R5 has the same front end components so shim away.

The 10R doesnt need to be shimmed. Throw in-line blocks on the front and call it a day. Thats how Im running mine right now. Only have 1 race but had plenty of on power steering.

Hey guys, need a little help. I have read all the online tuning guides I could find and they all say backwards of what is happening with my car.

I learned about bump steer the hard way fri. The car was almost undrivable! I had to go in for some testing on sunday to get the bump steer worked out. Ended up playing with the front end of the car. I dropped the 5deg reactive caster to zero to see if it would smooth things out. Well, it did smooth out the car going into the corner like I wanted but it added soo much steering every where else that I had to goto a softer rear tire and softer side spring and its still got too much steering. I thought it was supposta take steering out ?

Any ideas ?

If I cant find an answer then I will go back to the setup I posted on rc10.com but was hoping to make the car a little better. It can hang with the fast guys but would like to get it a little easyer to drive. Always looking for an edge !

DK, When i come up there on wed and thursday. I will look at what ya got and we can get it easy to drive, But you will lose some speed from what i have found. But sometimes this is the way to go.

how is this the rc12r5.1?

ive ran electric and nitro off road over the past ten years and
was looking into getting a 12th scale pan, im going to be running
the gtb ss and 17.5 at first. Also what are good servos any
airtronics what fits the best?
