Default replacement receiver wire

Hi Guys,

My reciever antenna has been accidently cut short in a smash and it still works @ the hill but I doubt it will work @ the creek or northside. Surely this is replaceable?!?!?!?! are these things sold seperatly or can I pick up the wire @ dick smith or something? It's for a 27mhz AM Futaba

I'm in Sydney. I do have a soldering iron so I think I can manage it but thanks. Where can I buy the antenna wire? Also what length should I get?

as i can remember, i read an article on the length of the antenna,
have to find it and get backto u. it talks about the 27mhz, and 29, or 40. they all have different .. if u r running 1:10 scale. the max length will no be longer than your car. if u get one from your local hobby shop. u may need to cut it ... normally they r too long....

in that article,
said...

300,000 KM / 27,000,000 = 11.11111 metre

the best length of antenna is 1/2 of the wave length. 5.56 m

but that is too long for rc cars.
so take 1/32 for 1:10 that is 34cm

for mini Z 1/64 will be 17cm for best reception...

however i have no idea where the 300,000 km comes from....

for FM40. best length for 1:10 will be 23.4 cm.

The formula you are using is lambda = v/f

lambda = wavelength (m)
v = speed of signal (m/s)
f = frequency (Hz)

In this case, radio waves travel at the speed of light, 3x10^8 metres per second or 300,000 km/s.

That's where 300,000 comes from.

Me bad then, I just strip multicore communication cables and use the wire out of them and works fine. Cost me $0.00 since it was scrap anyway and I have heaps of colours to pick from

Any copper wire will work.

Just go to Dick Smith's.

Go to their self-service wire section and look for their skinniest
thinnest wire, its only about 20c/metre & comes in 6-8 colours.

I'd usually colour code it too.. eg
black for 27Mhz
purple or grey for 29Mhz
white for 40Mhz

If you haven't lost the broken part of your old wire, just measure
the whole lot and put on a new wire of the same total length.

If you can't find the broken bit, just find someone with the same
RX on the same band whose wire is *known* unbroken and
measure that length it is.

Next time you're out with your car, best to do a Range Check.
