Default Brushless motor failed after using lipo...

Hey guys, I have a mamba max 5700 in my xxx-t. I am using a smaller 3s lipo and it runs great.

I wanted to go brushless for my 8 year old son but I knew he didnt need a crazy system so I bought him a cheaper EZrun system. It is rated for up to 3s lipo. We ran a bunch of 6 7 and 8 cell nimh batteries in his stampede with the ez run and it ran great.

Today we thought, why not try the lipo because it IS supposed to be able to handle it. Well needless to say, after about 2 wheelies and 10 seconds of running the motor sounded really choppy and it will only go maybe 5 mph. It wont reverse. I thought it was the trans so I disasembled it and it is definately the motor because I ran it free of any connection besides the pinion gear and the same result. Slow choppy speed forward. No reverse. Any ideas? Motor dead? Esc dead? Anything to fix it?

Thanks alot guys
-Stephen

Is it difficult to rotate by hand? If it is, the rotor may have delaminated from the higher speeds caused by the 3 cell battery... The only moving parts are the bearings and rotor and the only parts likely to fail. Are all of you connections good? If the sensor wire comes loose, the motor will act choppy and crazy. Otherwise, it might be the controller...

Default motor

when I spin the motor by hand it spins very smoothly. No noise no resistance. Ive disconnected and reconnected the wires a couple times and no change.

*Edit* I wasnt doing speed runs at all when it happened. I was actually just doing torque related stuff and that is why I thought it was the transmission. But when disconnected from the trans it still did it.

Any Ideas

Thanks

What temp was it at? Also did you change the gearing?

What motor/ESC combo did you have? If it was the 35A and 9t motor?
