Questions?? 2.4 questions

ive been out the game for a while, trying to make up 15 yrs in 2 months. im interested in one of the new(or new to me) 2.4 radio's and had a couple q's. I read they use modules, do they come with them? do u have to use reciever batteries in all of them and why? Is futaba's a good reliable one...i read the thread on spektrum and everybody was bad mouthun them. What yhe hell is this bind deal on the reciever. Is it that much better than fm? Just dont wanna waste 200-300 bucks!!! Thanks for any info

Your gonna get a hundred opinions on this. Spektrum stuff is the most popular in our area. Nobody seems to have any problems. I have a 3.0 and a dx3r. I was a Futuba guy for years but when I got back into the hobby the Spektrum stuff was more affordable. I'm happy with it.

Futuba ( I think) uses a module that snaps into the back of the radio. Their new FASST stuff might have it built into the radio, not sure. BIND is a process used to connect the signal from the radio to the receiver. Thus the receiver only accepts a signal from your radio, untill you bind it to a different one. And no extra batteries, I think. I sounds more complicated than it really is. If your gonna buy a radio get 2.4ghz it is that much better.

I run 2 Futaba systems - a 3PK and an older 3PJS. I bought a 2.4 FAAST module for the 3PK and its complete, comes with rx. The module snaps into the radio - the better futaba radios use snap in type modules, AM or FM or 2.4GHz. They use a regular rx batt just like an FM setup does. Only diff is the antenna is only 6" or so long. Don't have to raise it, can leave it lying in teh shell somewhere where it can't get damaged.

FAAST takes a few sec to go the bind process and its done until you change radio. I bash and rarely get to run with someone. I run mostly FM and have no issues other than the required dealing with crystals. This is futaba's entry level 2.4 TX

My 3PK was bought used and its never been a prob and was a super deal. The FSFT forum here has 2/4systems all the time.
