IMHO, they are VERY close. The 353 revs a tad higher than the 12-3, which has a bit more torque.

I run a 12-3 ST with a Max 2602 pipe and I have no problems keeping up with 353's.

I also have another ST which I modified a bit and it screams.

Especially since the conrod of the 353 (#7602) is almost twice the price than the regular rod (#7601) that goes into the 12-3 ST or SCT

The 353 had me curious because of the big price difference vs the 12-3ct...

i have a nova .12 motor in my rc10gt that i got off ebay and i'm trying to find out exactly what motor i have. on one side of the crankcase it clearly says "nova" on it and on the other side it says "m12" the m is above the 12. does anyone have an idea on what motor this might be.

It's a Mugen M12, made by Novarossi. It's actually a re-branded RS12S1

There were two Mugen M 12's I believe. The original MT-12 and the later MR-12. I believe both had the M on the crankcase. The main difference was the piston and the length of the rod. The MR-12 will have a cutout on the bottom of the piston skirt for clearance with the crank. The MT had a longer rod and so it did not require the cutout on the piston.

Yep, you are right. it's been a while with these two engines

The quickest way to keep them apart without opening them is to look between the crankcase and the cooling head.

On the MT 12 the sleeve sits completely on top of the case and on the MR12 it sits in a reset like on all the later engines.

hi everyone,

i have just bought a second hand Novarossi Plus 12-3C. how can i know if its good or bad? i mean the life of the engine. i opened it and on the piston there is a shiny golden-brown coating. the underhead is also shiny golden.

thanks in advance

Sounds to me like you got a motor that is just broken in. Hopefully that is the case. How does the pinch feel without the plug. Does it seed at TDC nicely. Also with the plug how is the compression. If these 2 things are good than I would run the motor rich for about the first 7 tanks just to make sure of the break in and then go for the race tune. Make sure it is shimmed for the fuel %you are going to use.

hope this helps,

Hi guys i just bought myself a murnan full ceramic 353 08 !!
what sort of powerband does this engine have? i mean is it a more torque motor or a top end motor

i would like to know what sort of gearing with the nt1 would work best with the engine, the track in question has 2 long straights and a few short/medium straighs with a few hairpins

We are on 3/4 to full throttle most of the time. i hope this info can help ?

ive currently been using the nova plus 12 3ct modified with 17/23 59/54 gearing and although it was fast the engine rpm werent too high

353 has higher rpm power than 12-3
